on a slightly different note, i always thought "misled" was pronounced something like

    "maisulled"

despite knowing it meant the same thing as "mis-led", which i also had heard pronounced and therefore knew was a valid word

it took my english teacher telling us that she always used to think that misled was pronounced "misulled" despite knowing it meant vaguely the same thing as "mis-led", and the entire class laughing, for me to realise my mistake

For me, it's seeing you're/your and their/there/they're misused on facebook. Constantly.

That is basic, primary school level education!!!!!!!

People use "alot" all the ****ing time.
    It isn't a word! It's two words: "a lot".

Every time I see "alot" I die a little inside.

I'm sick of people who can't spell so here's how to spell certain words.

Definitely - not definately or definitaly.

Breathe - note that this is spelt different from breath. You're meant to use breathe to explain how one inhales oxygen and emits carbon dioxide, and you use breath when you refer to ones breath smelling.

    Occasionally - two C's used.

Focused - Why oh why do people spell it as 'focussed?'

    Grammar- not grammer

does anyone care to add any more?

    Dissapointing
    Neccessary
    Accomodation
    Aging
    Appall
    Embarass
    Detatch
    Enthrall
    Fulfill
    Harrass
    Hygeinic
    Hierachy
    Independant
    Installment
    Judgment
    Itinary
    Enviroment
    Occurence
    Recieve
    Parlament
    Questionaire
    Seperate
    Momento
    Mediteranean
    Suprise
    Supress

    -All wrong!

I don't want to be fussy, but the title should be "Common words that people can't spell"... I thought I should point it out given the nature of the thread :P

It annoys me when teachers can't spell independent properly. Especially when they teach English.
