I'm nervous too.

Firmed Sheffield for Psychology. Anyone else going there?

I applied for 2 courses at Sheffield (law and law with criminology) Definitely hoping to go there but it looks like I might not make my offer.
I don't fit in where I'm at. Being a male and getting along with girls more than the chavvy boys my 6th form is full of, I've been labelled as a "fag" for ages. Except now that I'm suddenly bigger than the other boys they seem to have forgotten where their balls used to be. I'm looking forward to uni, get out of this hellhole of a college I'm at now haha. I've just learnt to not care about anything for the next few months then uniiiii

Anyone firming Hull?

I'm the same, mainly because i'm living at home I'm worried it's going to be really hard to fit in.

I live at home, it isn't really. You only miss out if you're a person who loves clubbing and socialising all the time. If you're more chilled out and quiet you tend to make more friends on your course or societies.

I think everyone gets nervous; it's a huge step to take, moving away from home and living with a group of complete strangers. I'm also very nervous because I'm ridiculously shy and socially anxious; I'm worried that I'll be in a flat full of people who love to go clubbing and I'll be the odd one out. But at the same time I'm really excited about starting my course, meeting people who have the same interests as me (which hasn't really happened before) and just generally being more independent.

Pretty much summed up what uni is about there.

Yes there is a fair chance that your hall flatmates won't end up being your lifetime buddies. All you really need is people that you can live with without wanting to tear your / their hair out. In fact it's quite useful to have people that wouldn't ordinarily be your friends, living with you, as you're forced to spend time with them and you get to learn about different people.

But also uni is the place when you can meet people with the same interests, if you look for them. At school and college you have a small group so chances are you won't find people with the same interests (most teenagers just find them online).

Just be aware that it takes time to find them though so don't write uni off after the first couple of weeks if you feel like you haven't made proper friends and everyone seems to be rowdy clubbers.

Which uni are you in? & was it easy on the 1st day?

Glyndwr University in Wrexham, and what do you mean by easy?

1st day in halls - nervewracking at first, but I'd met a few of my flatmates on Facebook before moving in and everyone was really lovely. Once I'd gotten settled in, we all walked to the shops together, walked around town and then we all went out and had a really good evening

1st day in lessons - this was great. I was nervous but I knew a few course mates from halls, and also because my degree has such a small class size and we all have to get to know each other really well, there was very little awkwardness - it was more a case of we're going to all end up being a family, may as well get started now. It was great, a really good experience.

I'm terrified, not fitting in, not being able to handle the work load and moving away from home. At least I'm not alone!

January exams have gone appallingly. I love my insurance (Nottingham Trent) but do have my heart on Sheffield. We'll see though!

How are you feeling about it?
