I think you should take up the foundation at CSM. Congrats on getting onto it, it's hard to do so. If you're really that set on the Bartlett, then reapply. Ask the Bartlett for feedback on your application and task so you'll improve on it next year.

Even if you don't end up reapplying to the Bartlett and defer your entry to other universities, doing an art foundation will honestly only be the best thing for you as a young creative. I say this as am I currently doing on rn. You'll take on so many skills through doing various workshops, and your mindset as an artist, creator and designer will also grow. All of this will only be advantageous to your application and also your study as an architect. Architecture schools, especially the Bartlett, also much prefer foundation students! A year is nothing!

I'm kind of in the same situation. I got rejected from the Bartlett and I am considering reapplying next year. But like I've already mentioned, Ive already taken a year out to do an art foundation so it would be quite illogical to take another year out. Currently have offers from Brighton, Manchester and westminister. As I am from Manchester, I don't really want to stay even though the school is amazing. I would like to move to London, so westminister is my first option but I gathered that their course isn't really aspirational and not for me although their studios are amazing .,. But maybe I am just comparing it to the Bartlett which is stupid!
Thanks for replying! I'm glad that i found someone like you here doing foundation. I have a friend who graduated from Bartlett last year and all she said was the school was simply amazing, but the uni life was tough. She also mentioned that age is not a problem, she was 19 when she attended and she was the youngest among the course.
I also believe that foundation could be beneficial since it opens you up to other creative options... Architecture being very competitive is common knowledge, only a few percent actually goes on to pursue architectural careers.
And yes! London is simply amazing and full of events. Have you tried applying to AA?

    Applying 'there' as in?
CSM's offer was foundation year as well, which would allow me to explore artistically but i doubt i would commit myself to architecture at CSM, considering not much has been spoken bout CSM except for fashion design.
Good Luck for Bath! HL physics was definitely not easy haha
Bath haha, thats what they wanted me to do, but I'd be doing no math or physics which I love. I applied to UCL but Im not sure if I want to go there cause student satisfaction was really low and the building was quite ugly, but well see where did you apply?

i would recommand you go to open days first, before making any decisions. i thought Bath was very science and technical biased as well, but then i went to the open day and found it actually very artsy...(not as artsy as schools like UCL etc, but definitely more artsy than i thought it would be). but thats my personal opinion tho, so better if u can check it out urself.
if u still feel like UCL is definitely ur thing than i dont see art foundation as a silly idea: it does prepare u well for the course, both the skills and the way you work, as far as you can afford paying for another year.

Yep, I will visit. If it gets me in the right school, i believe a year is worth it. What is your first choice?

UCL Bath Edinburgh and Sheffield. i only wanted UCL and Bath, the other two i did just for fun.. Edinburgh havent got back to me yet LOL and Sheffield requested portfolio. My friend who graduated there from Bartlett said its really good, so i dont think it will be that bad. My friend who is studying at UCL now said they are building a new building for architecture, and it looks pretty cool.

I have recently received an email from MSA saying "Your application was amongst the very best we have received and therefore we would like to invite you to attend a Taster Afternoon on Tuesday 8th March from 12.45pm to 4pm."
I guess they sent quite a lot of these, but I was curious whether anyone had any idea what it actually is. Some sort of Open Day?
MSA is my last choice, I do not really like it, but I still take it into consideration; therefore, please PM me if you know anything.
I went on one for "the very best" as well, they must be doing a few. I think it is to show off the new building to students that they really want to come. There was a talk which wasn't great and wasn't really directed at anything and then a tour and questions and meeting people at the school and the other "very best." I would definitely recommend going because it changed my view that it was second rate and it is actually so impressive. The integration with the art school as well is so impressive.

I've decided to post two of my task submitted to Bartlett just for you guys to see what rejection looks like (jk), its http://florang.weebly.com/art-blog done within 5 and 15 minutes. Personally i really think its okay for an interview, and i feel that Bartletts reason for rejecting ('drawings not at a sufficient level' is pretty vague. I phoned them asking why, they said they cant give 1400 applicants each a reason, which i understand, but still, frustrating.
I have no idea how the Bartlett judge the tasks, but all I would say is it is not innovative or memorable in either technique or approach to the task (i.e what is depicted and how it is). I think they like a personal approach to their brief addressing style and also subject matter that shows personality and flair.

No worries! We're all in this together I saw your task and although the technical drawing is good, I feel like it lacks a bit of that fine arty conceptual flair that the Bartlett are looking for..! Also, maybe the use of watercolours also brought it down? This is because they only specified pen/pencil/ink usage and they are really selective so I feel like they would use anything to reject someone..! Definitely feel like you should reapply and take ahead out because you have potential! You just need to broaden the way you work and look at space and a foundation would help that!

I also got rejected I didn't draw in a very technical manner within my task at all which I should have done..! I feel like I was way too conceptual with my drawings also. I want to reapply but everyone is telling me it'd be a stupid thing to do! I'll be 20 when I start which I don't really mind if I'm going to be honest but..!

I did not apply to the AAbecause my portfolio was not ready in time for the November applicant deadline. This deadline in November was essential for me because only through this deadline would one be able to apply for scholarships which would be integral to my study at the AA! If I take a year out, I will definitely apply to the AA! Have you (or has anyone) visited westminister?

I emailed them asking if i could use paint they said yes. However, i think i really should have used more pencil, sketching and showing tone and value. And same here, if id take the foundation course now, i would be 20 too when i start but i really dont mind. This architect i know who now runs his own company told me the best part about architecture is the learning part! He said he would teach architecture if he could! So i wouldnt worry about it too much. I applied to AA for the janurary deadline and im waiting for a decision. Im pretty happy with my portfolio, since i displayed more of my work (paintings, interior design, product design, sculpture that later inspired me to make it a building). With that said, i really wish Bartlett saw and judged my abilities on my portoflio, not just on 6 drawings.
Do you mind showing me some of the drawings for Bartlett? and no, i didnt apply to westminister

My Bartlett task (rejected). I sort of understand where I went wrong. I should have included at least some technical drawing and be more inclusive of space. But what can one do.. no going back it just sucks because I feel like my portfolio is very strong and I would have done well in the interview! Oh well.

Well done on your offers!! Baths my top choice but no offer yet:/ Can I ask if you're an international student?
I've lived in England my entire life so no.

    (Original post by lora9704)
Thanks for replying and Congrats! What is your first choice? Yeah ive read from other threads about how firms hate it when fresh graduates are unrealistic and do not think about how the building will actually work, and thats not one of Bath's qualities.
Thank you. Bath is my first choice, I just need to get that A*AA to get in now. Bath also has the built in placement year which makes you more attractive to employers as you will have already had work experience.

    (Original post by gemyerst)
how long did Bath take to respond?
A month and a bit. I applied in mid October and got an offer beginning of December.
