That's unfortunate, I went to surrey and they are brilliant for placements. For me it was fairly easy, my university advertised a list of placements on their website, and then we applied for them as you would a normal job. It my be harder to find one if your uni don't do that, although if they offer the placements they should help you with finding one!
aww man that sounds so ideal, I'll have to have a look around, then transfer onto the 4 year course. Not sure yet though itll be weird graduating later than everyone and stuff.

How did you get your year in industry? Did you get given one by the uni or had to find one yourself? (Sorry if taking this thread off track)
Our university advertised a list of posts which you could apply for. You could also give the University your CV and a covering letter and if a company contacted the Uni looking for placement students the Uni would send out everyone's CV who was interested. Thats how I got mine basically, just got invited to interview out of the blue. Its more difficult if your Uni doesnt have a set up like this, but then I suppose its just a case of speculatively e-mailing companies enquiring if they take on students for year long placements.

    Hey everyone,

Please don't discuss interview questions on TSR as this is against our guidelines and gives others an unfair advantage to others.

    Good luck with your interviews,

Hey, I was on the reserve list for genomics but I was contacted by email a couple of weeks ago offering me an interview.
Wish you all the best and fingers crossed I'll see you there!

Ahh well done! You must have been right near the top of the reserves then!

I fear it's too late for the rest of us...

Had my interview today, I feel like 2 of the stations went really well but I totally messed up the specialism specific one! I spent weeks revising but they didn't ask about anything I covered!
Anyway best of luck to those who still have interviews, I think I will be reapplying next year by the looks of it!

Oh no!! I'm worried about that happening to me too, feel like I could handle some questions ok, but it is the unknown I'm scared of!!! You never know the score is averaged, so if 2 stations went well, you could still be ok, and you also get marks for your communication. Which were the 2 you think went ok? I've only really prepped for the specialist one so am a bit nervous something difficult might come up either in leadership or NHS values!!

How is it going preparing for genetics and cardiac science? They're quite different from each other, are you focusing most on one or balancing your time between both?

I felt exactly the same - general science and leadership I felt went ok, values and behaviours I'm 50:50 on , but it was the specialism specific station that I found hardest - I'd prepared loads too and nothing I ever thought would come up did!

Just solely focused on genetics so far, have about a week and a half after that until cardiac so thought it was probably for the best. Yeah I guess it would probably be easier if I was going for say genetic counselling instead of cardiac, but the heart wants what the heart wants !!!!!

hahaha fair enough. You're lucky to have time in between your interviews, it wasn't the case for me unfortunately!!

    i

I think leadership and nhs values I actually found pretty easy! I wouldn't worry too much! They're also the stations I feel you have the opportunity to discuss your experience and show more personality.
The most frustrating thing for me with the specialist specific one was that I knew I had heard of some of the things they were asking me about as I covered them during my degree, but I just couldn't remember them! And they weren't at all the sort of thing I expected I come up
I didn't know they average your score? I heard that you have to get a minimum score on each station to be considered? (If that's the case, I'm screwed!)
