    It's usually around March 1/2 isn't it?
Though it just might be earlier since the O levels came out earlier and all

farhan: "The national language of Singapore is Malay for historical reasons, and it is used in the national anthem, "Majulah Singapura". The official languages are English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. English has been promoted as the country's language of administration since independence. The English used is primarily based on British English, with some American English influences." wikipedia. Couldn't have put it better myself.

Though do note that not all of us can speak Malay, the generation going to school now mostly can't except those who really are Malay. The older generation knows more Malay as a whole..

wow that would have been very soon. The O levels came out earlier to allow students to go in to JC earlier for the second intake...so I don't really think it's to do with the marking etc. being faster overall?

Sort of ba. I got conditional offers from both Liverpool and Cardiff. Liverpool want average C while Cardiff wants average B. I now is average C+. I prefer Cardiff to Liverpool so if I can't get into Cardiff, I might go Aussie.

What's your reason of coming to UK?

My reason is that I like the environment, infrastructure and strangely, the lack of sunlight. Haha.

    heys...resurrecting this thread.

i'm currently serving ns, will enter uni in 09 and thinking of applying to uni to study history.

the amount of choices available and factors to consider are overwhelming...i've been looking through the forums and on uni websites everyday but its not getting any better. might end up at NTU after all haha...

anyways, is any of you over at the uk yet? if i don't get a scholarship i'll definitely wanna avoid expensive areas like london. yet i also want areas where its easy to make friends and socialise ie. not too close knit and everyone already knows everyone. i was looking to put down queen's belfast as a choice until i went to the n. ireland forum and everyone was saying how it was an anti social university cos everyone all knows everyone from high school...bleah...

others i'm looking at are leceister, cardiff, birmingham and royal holloway...

all the aforesaid unis are in big cities (esp birmingham) so dont need to worry. However even though the no of singapores going to uk is increasing over the years, Im afraid most of them are still clustered in london (with imperial topping the list). Places like warwick, nottingham, durham, birmingham have singaporeans here and there but not a significant amount in any way. also, sg-reans tend to stick with sg-reans abroad. More security and familiarity in a foreign land i guess

nope. in london maybe (these 3 schools tend to flock to london schools), but in UK as a whole, no. dont worry

hmmm so there's a pretty good spread of different jc backgrounds? haha the impression i get from forums and stuff is that its 80% hwa chong and raffles (plus some vj) lol.

after more research i'm leaning towards a joint/combined honours degree or a flexible pick and choose type of course (haha maybe i should go to the usa for her liberal arts instead).

so its york (hist/socio) or durham (combined soc sciences) or warwick (hist/socio) or cardiff (hist/socio). looking at exeter (flexible combined honours) and machester (hist/soc sciences) too...
