Nothing French-related for me yet ...
I haven't had anything through either, though my friend got a reading list for French from Exeter.

It's the same as the online prelims handbook apparently...

Just out of interest, what are the books on your reading list (for German right?) I'm just curious, because I've had German for uhm... since 3rd grade up until now, I'd really like to know whether I've read all the books you have to read
    I'll send you a PM

Yes, any work to do in advance will be set by your tutors.

for the most part, although some subjects do have work which is set by the faculty. theology, for example, has a compulsory biblical language in the first year, and if you choose greek (which most people do) then you have to attend a pre-term course arranged by the faculty. there's a test at the start on the first x chapters of the textbook, which the faculty tells you about. having said that, i also got an email from my college tutor telling me about reading for my other papers, and in that email he told me about the greek too, so if you do have work set by your faculty your tutor will probably tell you about it too.

Ahh, when I was staying at Merton for interviews, one of the undergraduates who was there helping out was on university challenge. We all sat in the TV room and watched it. Us interviewees weren't over-enthusiastic supporters of Merton, probably because we didn't know if we'd be getting in or not

No, but Cudmore is a beast =S

I remember doing a pub quiz during interviews at Trinity, hoping the 'secret prize' was an offer. The helper joked that a pub quiz is part of Magdalen's admissions process to ensure a great university challenge team :P

No, but I am one of those sad people who's been cheering them on throughout the series (Chan and Haddad-Fonda in particular) .

My third interview was at Merton. Did you watch it in their posh common room? :p:

Same! I so glad Cambridge didn't win. We now have the boat race and university challenge :p:

Do Magdalen always have a strong team in university challenge then?

Well they are the most successful team I think - 4 wins now.

One question, how is it that Chan and Cudmore have finished their degrees? Did they graduate last year?

I was wondering the exact same thing! Surely that's cheating?

The recording was finished last year, in late June or some time around then.

I'll be seeing you in the finals in a couple of years then? :P

It seems to require so much effort - They all knew random stuff outside their specialisations, I don't think I'd have enough time...

Did you notice the 4th member of the Magdalen team who didn't answer a single question? He looked suspiciously like a professor to me... :hmmmm:

Sorry to continue the random, but I didn't expect to find other people who like him on this thread!

Back on topic, my dad seems to think that going to Oxford will automatically make you be on University Challenge. I don't want to kill his belief...

Thankyou  It's definitely the curly hair that gets me! Even more embarrassingly, I know him off AVPM!

Shinobi, maybe you could tell your dad that everyone's so clever that they pick the teams at random?
