I don't know, sorry! This is organised by the MPSL department, I don't know if there's an equivalent thing for PPE. I think the point of it is to make sure that science students haven't forgotten basic stuff over the break (which I think would probably be less of an issue for the humanities) but if there is one and you qualify, I'm sure they'll let you know. I was emailed about it.
Ok, thanks for the info what college are you by the way?

I'm far from going to university, but I just wanted to say a quick well done to all of you in this thread! You must all be amazing to get an offer from Oxford, so a massive congratulations!! I know I'm late but I figured the realisation of your offer must still be sinking in haha
This is a lovely post, thank you :-)! It is still sinking in for sure, I still freak out on the inside a little when I receive a letter or email from oxford haha. Are you thinking of applying in the future?

You're most welcome! Yes I'd like to, I know it's early but I've been to the city lots and it's so beautiful, as well as the uni being amazing! I guess I'll have to see how all my exams go! Yes, I can imagine, in fact I'd probably reread them again and again haha. So what do you want to study there?

Ah, I see! Is there one for PPE?

Have you been emailed prep work yet? I'm not a PPEist (I'm a Classicist) but I was told in an email about preparation work that I have to attend a Greek language summer school... So you might have a similar kind of summer revision/preparation session? Either way, as long as you keep checking your email inbox (and spam!), I'm sure you won't miss out on anything

The first time I went was for the open day in September and at that point I still hadn't decided whether i would go on to apply, but I really did fall in love with the city. Yes, that's the first obstacle to get over then you can start getting excited!

I have an offer to study Engineering and I want to specialise in Chemical at the moment, what about you :-)?

PPE is a joke so there won't be any preparation. All I can advise a PPEist is to learn the whole of Logic before you arrive because it is a *****. My mate did it all before arriving and he could spend the first term using his time to make good friendships rather than working.

Hi! I'm holding an offer for classics (IIB) too! I have just received the email asking me to attend a summer course, but I'm an international student, and it will be hard to travel there for one (or two) week to take the course...still looking for alternatives at home...

Hi! Got an offer to study Chemistry at Magdalen. Anyone similar?
Also have you applied for the catch-up week before term starts?

    Thanks

Hi! I know that lots of offer-holders are talking about special catch-up weeks before the course actually starts - does anyone know if this will apply to humanities subjects (I have an offer for Philosophy and French)? Thank-you in advance

The one they emailed me about was only for physical sciences but there might be one, not sure. They'll let you know if there is one though, you don't need to find it

Courses like the MPLS bridging scheme are for certain science courses. Classics also recommends courses for languages but other than that most humanities won't have a course that's necessary.

Some colleges like Univ do courses as well the week before Welcome Week (Freshers), but this varies from college to college.

Most people won't attend a course or have one required, the time instead should be spent doing any preparatory reading or work your college sends you or just general reading around the subject or papers you'll be studying on arrival

Hi everyone! For those still mulling over whether to firm Oxford, or who just happen to be curious, I've written a post on studying languages there Feel free to share! https://carambalache.wordpress.com/2...ges-at-oxford/

Hey, do you by any chance have anything similar for PPE? I'm thinking whether I should firm it or LSE

Thank you so much, this was incredibly helpful! I was slightly worried after reading that article on The Tab I have an offer for French and Beginner's German at St Edmund Hall and I'm ecstatic, still hasn't quite sunken in! Just got to get those grades

I don't I'm afraid! Have you asked in the 'what would you like to know about Oxford' thread? Also anecdotally I've heard LSE isn't great for undergrad but that may not be super helpful!

No problem! I wanted to combat the effect of that article, actually, as it might put off lots of applicants who might actually love the course!

Edit: You're one of the first ever ab initio Germanists! You'll have my German tutor! The evil one I mentioned

How's everyone getting on with applying for finance etc? I think mine is done - I'm just slightly disbelieving as SFE said it would take at least six weeks and it took about one and a half?! New sent some financial forms and stuff as well a few days ago so I'd better get to that at some point!

I think my family want to go and look around Oxford at some point over Easter; if we do go it'll be my first time walking around there knowing it isn't just a pipe dream
