And then other people are like hur dur armenia and Israel shouldn't be in eurovision because they're not in Europe hurr durr.

The whole point is the country needs to be a member of the EBU.

Australia are on the other side of the world
Yeah, at least Israel, Azerbaijan and all that are geographically near us. Australia is at the other side of the world!

Seems I'm the only person on TSR who liked Ukraines song, I did like the entire top 4 though to be fair

The full results including semis are out now on the official site. Seems Australia beat Ukraine in semi final 2 but couldn't do it in the final. It's weird how this is the first ever winner to not win either the televote or the jury vote, and it's the 2nd year in a row that the televoting public hasn't got their way

Poland getting 3rd in the televote was absolutely ridiculous though.....

    I know I know

    :emo:

    And no not really
It was so damn catchy, the Ukraine song is so eerie and spooky and political.

And here's why I think they look alike.

In competitions such as this I've always favoured a system where scores are multiplied together instead of added together. It gives much larger scores yes but it rewards consistency as opposed to a select group of countries really liking the song. Having downloaded the spreadsheet of scores and analysed them such a system would have given a different result:

    Armenia: 3.95511E+32
    Belgium: 2.98675E+23
    Czech Republic: 6,652,800
    The Netherlands : 2.18258E+22
    Azerbaijan: 2.82673E+16
    Hungary: 3.41857E+17
    Italy: 3.15951E+16
    Israel: 9.32962E+19
    Bulgaria: 2.85403E+42
    Sweden: 3.19954E+34
    Germany: 54
    France: 1.47572E+37
    Poland: 2.49276E+30
    Australia: 3.62273E+63
    Cyprus: 255,638,450,995,200
    Serbia: 19,704,965,061,600
    Lithuania: 1.28412E+28
    Croatia: 70,413,235,200
    Russia: 2.46503E+56
    Spain: 2,445,520,896,000
    Latvia: 2.03555E+19
    Ukraine: 1.2476E+60
    Malta: 1.05506E+21
    Georgia: 124,281,371,934,720
    Austria: 2.11279E+23
    United Kingdom: 1,886,976,000

This would have given in case you can't see:
    1: Australia (+1)
    2: Ukraine (-1)
    3: Russia
    4: Bulgaria
    5: France (+1)
    6: Sweden (-1)
    7: Armenia
    8: Poland
    9: Lithuania
    10: Belgium
    11: Austria (+2)
    12: The Netherlands (-1)
    13: Malta (-1)
    14: Isreal
    15: Latvia
    16: Hungary (+3)
    17: Italy (-1)
    18: Azerbaijan (-1)
    19: Cyprus (+2)
    20: Geogia
    21: Serbia (-3)
    22: Spain
    23: Croatia
    24: UK
    25: Czech Republic
    26: Germany

You'd think that as a student community we'd be quite tolerant, but alas.

I'm quite happy with the winner, it's much better than Australia or Russia winning. The rest of the result is a mess though, Belgium in 10th compared to Serbia in 18th and Cyprus in like 20th? Poland and Lithuania shouldn't have been in the top ten and it's a shame the jury results were so mixed up. I hope next year is better.

Eurovision was so well prepared this year. I really loved the song of Belarus. The singer's performance was brilliant.
Nevertheless, I voted for Russia. This country has shown amazing number. The lightning, the screen and singer's dancing and jumping over the wall was incredible. It was so beautiful and the song had stuck in my head for days.
