Wow that's awesome! I need AAB...so these few months of waiting could be quite fun... but then I'm still apprehensive about the start of uni, so I don't really know what time I want it to be! :P Guess I'll just have to sniff out the wacky societies and make a nest there...

no tea? aaah traitor :P No that's cool. I love tea...amazing how I manage to restrict myself to two cups a day. My friends made me a teapot birthday cake for my 19th. I am so cool...
My parents bought me a caterpillar cake for my birthday .

People who aren't crazy about clubbing should wear fluorescent jackets during freshers so we can find each other! :P It would make things easier..

I've just realised that may give the impression that we love clubbing a bit too much..

Oh!! This is the best thread I've seen in ages and ages!

Hello fellow kindred spirits; shall I introduce myself?

-I'm a teetotal first year at Magdalen College, Oxford. (Yes, the same place as that other poster up there, and yes, we did bond over our mutual shudder at the sight of alcohol. )
-I've never drunk alcohol, nor do I intend do.
    -Additionally, I've never been clubbing...
    -..not even in Freshers' Week....
-...and I survived. In fact, I'm doing very well with a bunch of fabulous friends, most of whom don't drink either.
-AND I'm a linguist! I do German and Spanish. :woo:

I think this thread is absolutely BRILLIANT and so wish I'd had one of these last year! Nevertheless, I'm probably going to stick around (if you guys want me, that is) and I'm totally open to questions, either on here or on my Twitter on my sig, whether it be about surviving Freshers' without alcohol/clubbing, uni/Oxford in general, or about modern languages!

    See you soon :awesome:

    Hey

What did you do whilst went clubbing drinking etc, during freshers week? Also, if you did get invited to go clubbing, how did you say I don't want to go without sounding rude?

    Thanks

I'm not too bad with my accent - understandable at least, I think! Geordies at least have quite a friendly reputation. Must be scary though from so far away.

Northumbria is my back up - don't know if you know it but it's up in Newcastle as well
Yeah everyone was really nice and friendly, they just found it funny that I couldn't understand them

Ooh I actually considered applying for Northumbria but can't remember why I didn't :/

You choose types of rooms, not specific ones. Just hope the bed's big enough and I have enough room for the books and the telly, and I'll be made.

Haha, I do sometimes wonder what I'm letting myself into...but if you do EIGHT hours a day, then I guess I'll be fine too! how do you find the time to be social/relax and work?

Well, I'm not a massive fan of hot drinks, but I do love a good dunk. Unless it collapses and I can't fish it out.

Yeah, I hope so. I'm a bit apprehensive, I'm not so good with my ways with words. Guess I'll just have to try and try again until I find some people. Can't wait for society joining though!
I see. Well, I can't imagine that the bed won't be large enough, and nor can I imagine you not having ample space for books and a television. If I can fit all the books I bring with me to university in my room, quite frankly anybody can.

I'm sure you will be fine. The colossal majority of people are and as long as you're responsible enough to not let work pile up there shouldn't be an issue. Well, even if I work for ten hours a day that still leaves six hours for other things, and often socialising involves working in somebody's room.

No? That's odd - I spend most of my university life drinking tea, it would seem. Oh, that's why one is extremely careful - a collapse is, of course, a disaster.

Hmm, I see. Well, I am all but certain that you won't have a problem. And joining societies is a superb idea - I'm part of two or three and they do make university life that bit more enjoyable.

Yes, do. It was certainly intended as one. :yep:

Yes, I have. And not just on here, either. One particularly amusing memory I have is of a bouncer in Zante telling me he thought that I was twenty-six or twenty-seven. I was eighteen. :lolwut:

Yeah I think I'm most worried about not gelling with my flat mates. :/ I've been to uni for a year before and not drinking didnt really affect things but I wasn't staying in halls.
