With edexcel it has always been online marking for me and I started in 2006 I think so I can't compare. I consider them 2 separate payments and it is clearly indicated in the contract as well. Considering the pay per script or item with or without the bonus is not very much, a teacher can get more with private tuition but it is good for learning exam technique when you first start teaching.(Original post by tiny hobbit)
To my mind, that's the same thing. If you look at the pay rate per script before and after online marking was introduced, either the effective rate per paper went down or else the bonus is effectively part of your basic rate per paper which will be withheld if you are slow in finishing your marking.

Guys, Edexcel have been pushed to make their exams and mark schemes harder, this year! That's what my teacher told me. I doubt they can get it SO WRONG!

Erm unfortunately you had it better than me I got 95 in unit 1 aswell and E is unit 2 as far as I'm concerned I should be getting at least an A or B in my paper 2. Btw all my other results were 90+( I mean all of my exams paper ) FYI I did not screw up if I screwed up I would have noticed it myself -

What evidence did he/she provided? I doubt that's the case and looking at the paper and mark scheme it is as accessible as previous years. Same tolerance and marking criteria.

I had to since I am an examiner. And you are referring to a friend of your teacher? I am not trying to argue just providing a different view on this discussion. My view is coming from marking Economics and Business Studies papers.
I was talking about maths. Edexcel have been pushed because there exams have been too easy-that's what she said -

A teacher at my college told us that the A and U boundaries have been 'squished' together, meaning that generally a U was nearer 50% as opposed to nearer 40% last year. This is quite significant on two counts; it makes it a lot harder to pass, and it means there are very few marks distinguishing between the B, C, D, E grades - so a small number of marks can have grave consequences. Combining this with having all the exams in one session, and much harder exams, the margin of error is much higher I think this is the reason for people getting lower than expected results, rather than Edexcel markers across many disciplines all making a vast number of errors.

Kinda irrelevant, but for international a level exams CIE is MASSIVELY more popular despite being linear not modular because edexcel has a bit of a reputation for being more confusing and all-over-the-place with their marking. Plus the recent changes-no jan exams-mean that a new board, edexcel intl, had to be created. And cie is more organised.

i've been reading through and i think if you really believe you've done better get a re mark, i found the edexcel science exams fine - i was really happy with the unit 5 exams for chem and bio. Tbh it might also be when practicing papers your not marking harsh enough e.g. i would not give myself the mark unless i had written it like the mark scheme had and i would also not give an 'or equivalent' mark. The best thing to do imo is to get a remark, good luck guys and i hope your grades go up.

I'm perfectly happy with Edexcel, though I suppose that's what happens when you do maths, there's no opinions involved.

For A2 geography, we're given this pre-release of information which gives us a hint of what'll come up in the exam and to research and prepare accordingly to what they say. Each year, the question has been similar to the pre-release... BUT this year, it was different. Absolutely misleading, all the research that everyone had done (It all had to be super-detailed, with sources so there's no way you can really make it up either) was made useless. (this is for the tectonic hazards one)
BUT, because there are about 6 different topics, and since the all had their own pre-releases ( which were presumably OK), the grade boundaries didn't change for the exam although edexcel ****ing over a hell of a lot of people.
Quite ironically, I'm going to finish with this: you will not gain anything by complaining about your results. What's done is done. Better to plan ahead from whatever grades you've got, instead of dwelling upon your failures (although they're not entirely your fault - I understand that part)
Failure is not getting knocked down, it's refusing to get back up. -

I've been reading a lot of posts by people studying with edexcel, who used to get As in their subject and ended up with E's and U's. A friend of mine has the same problem with biology. I think Edexcel might have screwed up a lot this exam season, either they marked them incorrectly or there were some mistakes.
Anyone agree? -
