You know what, since this whole avatar backlash thing started, I did not know so many users on what I think to be a very open minded forum had such homophobic opinions, at least 5 times since changing it yesterday I have been told it's 'offensive' or 'disgusting'.

It's really opened my eyes to the fact homophobia still exists even in our younger more accepting generation. Sad really. Of course I knew it existed before but maybe I just didn't expect it so much from people like us and more from the older more conservative generation.

    That's actually so sad :erm:

It goes to show you that even behind computer / phone screens there's only a certain extent to which some people can give an illusion and have opinions which are a facade to those who don't know them personally.

Don't worry Mav! We're still gonna stand strong and fight the ignorance. This thread will be a cornerstone of positivity on TSR! We made it to the homepage after all

I know, it's so sad. Yes and that's what I was thinking, some people can't help but share their homophobic opinion about my avatar even if it's out of character for them. I find it really interesting actually. I never have and never will understand homophobia.

This is all very nice and positive however the fact of the matter still remains that IRL no one is nearly as positive and accepting as the people on this thread are so it's just like...

I kinda see this thread as being an illusion of the perfect world but rest assured, once you turn off your phones, close your laptops, switch off your computers and go outside (or stay inside of your parents are homophobic) then all the negativity will return *sigh*

Okaii so I don't mean to be so pessimistic really it's just annoying that's all

Can someone make a thread explaining why they are changing there avatars etc or OP add something. As I see it in every other thread. Even when it's unrelated to the OP's topic/issue. Just something to clarify why as some people still don't understand. It's taking over TSR. Whilst that's a good thing. It's not taking over TSR in the manner it was intended. There needs to be some clarification as people still don't know why nor the intention/message you are sending out by having these avatars.

Here is the reason (: All us LGBT+ people and allies are coming together, in solidarity

    (Original post by Danz123)
OK, so regardless of whether people disagree with this thread, I thought just as a show of solidarity, in response to those who would take down certain expressions of love just because it's deemed 'inappropriate' to see two people of the same gender kiss, we should all change our avatars to same sex couples showing affection just to piss the bigots off! And yes, I'm changing mine. Also, any pics or gifs of same sex love as well as positive messages are more than welcome in this thread. Hell, it's what the thread's all about!

One TV show I recommend you guys watch is Sense8

Features a transgender called Nomi (who had a sex change to become a woman), has a wonderful relationship with her girlfriend, and has to deal with her mother calling her Michael and saying she was born as a boy. The mother also takes the opportunity after Nomi getting into an accident at Gay Pride to convince the hospital Nomi is in that something is wrong with her brain so that they can perform an operation and get rid of the 'gay' in her.

And there's also a gay couple; one of whom is an actor and is afraid of people finding out that he's homosexual so uses his colleague as a facade and makes it seem as though they're dating.

That isn't the plot of the story though, but it gives a taster of a few of the characters in the show

11/10 WOULD RECOMMEND. Please PM me if you do end up watching it H

Well I have done, read the OP. It's all about fighting ignorance and showing how expressions of love between same sex or heterosexual couples are both beautiful. It's a show of solidarity against the bigots of TSR who would want to see said pics of same sex couples kissing as one's avatar taken down, however the overarching theme is of course one of positivity. :awesome:

There is hope, most people I know irl are genuinely accepting of homosexuality, and this is in quite a religious community. So if people of faith are starting to accept it, its just a matter of time until everyone does.
Also, the fact that so many voted for gay marriage in Ireland reveals how the tides have turned.
