    This is nonsense. Most students wouldn't pay it off even they worked until they passed away because of low wages. Taxes increase all the time anyway so it doesn't really benefit tax payers.

    This - I'm fortunate enough to have a graduate job in the field I studied, I worked out a few months ago that if I kept paying it back at the current rate and if it wasn't written off after 25 years, I'd be 83 by the time it was paid off.
