I have a standard single at £128.73 per week (so no ensuite. )

Does this mean my room is one of the smaller ones?

I have the exact same room. Well the price is the same.

I just got my room allocation today. It's a standard single at £130 a week. I assume this means I will have to share a bathroom. Can you tell me what's it like. Is the bathroom far from the rooms? Are the rooms bigger because there isn't a bathroom?
There is like a little lobby between your room and the room next door with a door to the bathroom. Both of your keys lock/unlock the door to this little area, but it is very rare for people to actually lock it (completely pointless IMO). The rooms are smaller, but still good sizes.

Sharing a bathroom is fine. I have a room with a shared bathroom, even though I could have an en-suite if I wanted one.

Do you think the ethernet port will be above the desk?
Almost certainly, yes.

(Original post by Maccountant)
Also do the wardrobed contain coat hangers?
No. You'll need to bring them/buy them here.

If you have a shared bathroom, do you share with someone of the same sex, or do boys and girls share too?

If we know we don't have ensuite, should we proceed to buy an ethernet cable (5m is enough presumably?)

It will always be someone of the same sex. It will nearly always be someone who is also undergrad/postgrad (whichever you are).

We'll probably get some short ones in bulk to sell on but yeah, if you can get one for cheap where you live. Make sure it is a straight NOT crossover cable.

There are 2 lamps in the room, so no.

The vast majority of rooms have the ethernet connection above the desk, so 1m is enough. However, unfortunately some of the en-suite rooms bizarrely have theirs on the opposite wall meaning you need about 8m or something like that.

The SU shop sells 5m cables for about £5, however I'm gonna look into the Committee buying a bulk lot to sell on as they only work out at about £2 each that way (plus some longer ones for the rooms with badly-situated connections).
Can you tell me roughly how big the en-suites are?
And are the twin en-suites any bigger than a single en-suite to accommodate two people using it - I know it obviously won't be used by both residents at the same time but is it any bigger?

The en-suites are little rooms with a shower cubicle, toilet and sink and not much more space than necessary! The shared bathrooms are the same size.

I'm looking on Amazon - but I don't know which type to buy (I'm tech illiterate. )

It's too much effort to set up an Ebay account :o:

Thanks. Apparently it needs to be "straight" not "crossover" - but it doesn't say on the Amazon page which one it is.

I can use my dad's ebay account if you think it's better to buy from there though

It says 'This is a patch cable (also called straight or straight-through cable)'

I'm pretty sure it's the right one. I bought mine from ebay today for £1.69. Only 2p different.

Are there bins provided in the rooms. Also do we have to bring toilet roll?
