I square rooted both sides of X^2 = 4(X-3)^2 to get X = 2X - 6 which i then solved to get X = 6, I dont quite get why this isn't allowed but will i at least get part marks as I got 6 which was one of the answers?
Because let's say X was 2, then 4(2-3)^2 would be 4(4-9) which would be 16-36 which would equal -20. But if you simplified it to 2*2-6 then the answer would be 4-6 which would be -2. Hence 4(X-3)^2 is not equal to 2X-6. That is what I think anyway. I may be wrong.

Since it didnt ask for it in its simplest form, do you guys reckon that 1/4 - root6/12 is fine for the answer to the last question as it is still an exact equivalent to 3-root6/12 ?

    for the x^2 = 4 (x-3)^2 question, i got 6 and (6/3)- which is 2 but i didnt write 2...

I did the working out and everything but left 2 as a fraction (6/3)- could i still get full marks for the question?

for the last part of the vectors question about point S, i put that it was also 3:1 on the line OT (or something like that) and said the lines were the same. Could i get at least 1 mark for that?

    No, it was 60m^2 - 10m^2
    Therefore it was 50m^2
