Hey, if anyone's doing The Crucible tomorrow, what could you say about the Putnams? It seems way too harsh to give us such minor characters, but just in case.. any suggestions?

Thanks for your reply. I have to ask, can you talk about his reaction to the death of Eva Smith as an example of the contrast in socialist and capitalist ideas between Mr Birling and Inspector Goole? I'm worried that I would not get enough points to write down on my exam which is tomorrow.
Indeed, you can. Make sure that you back it up with clear quotes that show this. Talk about how Birling shows little care and does not feel the need for collective responsibility, but Inspector Google is appauled and expresses the need for collective responsibility. THIS COULD BE A KEY PART OF YOUR ESSAY, as long as you back it up with quotes.

If you are worried about making up enough points... ensure that you talk about
    . alternative interpretations
. the affect it has on the audience
. why Priestley has included it

The above points will help you make up some extra marks/points and will take you into band 6 ( A/A* grade)

What does everyone else want for the exam?
Personally for An Inspector Calls I'd like a question on either Sheila or responsibility, and for Of Mice and Men I'd really love a question on Slim - got loads to write for him!
For AIC I'd love a question on Eva Smith. I hate to burst your bubble but Sheila had her own question a short while ago so I don't think she'll come up again as did responsibility but that's such an important theme that it might be repeated.

I don't really care about OMAM as you are given an extract for one question and the other is more about Historical Context anyway so it really depends on the extract. Dreams would be great for Question B but unlikely.

Same! In answer to your question, i doubt it. Simon has been asked previously, and no question has ever been repeated before. Ralph is a likely person, and i think also the Beast (fear) or Rules/democracy/the conch

Honestly, I'm hoping for a question on Mr. Birling for AIC (or on contrasts, but that recently came up I believe) and a question on Slim for OMAM.

Uh, everyone is saying that for An Inspector Calls they think Mr Birling will come up. Wasn't he a question in 2012?
A quote of his was used but it wasn't about him the question was on responsibility.

Whats the point of asking? You're clearly not prepared so you will fail.

No one here has any interpretations related to Mr Birling? I would really appreciate if someone could help me out here, as I don't know the things I could write on Mr Birling, apart from the obvious characteristics and his capitalistic ideology. I would upload revision notes and some essays I had collaborated into one word document in return. Though it may not be finished, it does have a bit over 7,000 words. The document only contains notes on An Inspector Calls and Of Mice and Men, however.
Mrs. Birling represents an example of someone who has sinned in this morality play although it is somewhat secular. Mrs.Birling denies Eva any help or aid for her unborn child and calls her "impertinent" even though she knows she is of a lower social class; this could give imply connotations of Mrs.Birling's pride engrossing her as she believes she is better than Eva and believes that the fact that someone of a lower social class used the Birling name is unforgivable. Pride is one of the seven deadly sins and is represented through Mrs. Birling in this play. Priestley presents some of those of middle class who are living a high standard of life as sinners who are not contributing positively society on the moral scale and as a member of the audience it makes you start to consider your actions as well as how you treat other people. Made that up on the spot
