I didn't realize how much people from different countries absolutely hate and resent the country that I absolutely love until I came across a post in this student website.

I know I am going to get bashed for this post, but I am already aware of that and am fine with that fact since I just want to understand other countries views.

I am American and I do know that our country isn't the best, but I am still proud to be born and raised here. For all of those who dislike me just because I am one, all I have to say is that you should really travel to see our country, to meet people here our different communities and backgrounds, and just to get to know more us instead of bashing us head on. I apologize for my rambling on, but if you were in my position what would you think? say? or even do?

I want to know what you dislike about my country and why? Please don't be too harsh, I am not trying to insult or piss off anyone. I am merely asking the question to understand peoples views and hear different opinions.
Because some people think the actions of a few represent the majority. Plus a lot comes down to banter and a bit of rivalry

I don't think most people actually hate Americans. I have to admit, alot of people find American culture utterly bizarre (I'm sure it works both ways, too), but hating Americans ... well people say they do but in reality when faced with an American it's all "OH EM GEE YOU'RE AMERICAAAAEEN!!!", so I really wouldn't worry about it

    1) This area infested with religious fanatics is refered to as the bible belt. I don't recall many instances of American religious fanatics crashing planes into buildings or anything, so in my mind the middle east and some eastern Europeans still win that category. Also, in the same breath that Europeans use to call Americans religious fanatics, many say that our women are the easiest around. The two stereotypes seem pretty contradictory.
Ignoring extremities, on a general scale, the U.S is far more religious than the average Brit or European. The statistics prove it.

While the actual war may have gotten a little screwed up, you are a dumbass if you can't remember why it was started. If some terrorist group flew planes into buildings in your country, would you expect your own government to not do anything about it? Bush was put in a tricky spot and no matter which way he decided to move, he would have been critisized. He played the best game he could with the hand he was dealt.
It wasn't in retaliation to 9/11, if it was why wait two years? Face it, it was all about the oil and personal ideologies. You did the same thing with Vietnam 50 years ago, and still haven't learned your lesson.

    8) No one voted for Palin.
She was voted for to be Governor of Alaska. She must have a considerable chance of becoming the President, or believe me she would not run for it.

    9) Only the illegal immigrants. If you come to our country legaly, our government has no qualms. Most Americans are very proud to come from other parts of the world, those differences are reveered not condemned. Most can tell you exactly where their heritage lies and what percentage, as they are so proud of it (I am 50% Irish and 50% Prussian. I say Prussian because those ancestors came to America before Germany became a country)
I find it embarrassing when Americans spurt out a list of all their different ethnicities. My Grandparent's are Irish and believe me, most Irish hate it when Americans say 'I'm Irish'. No you're not you're American you fat morons.

the closer we move towards socialism, the closer we move towards communism.
Omg...are these seriously the people we are dealing with? And you claim towards being one of the educated ones. It's unbelievable it really is. :zomg:

You're entitled to like your country. I'm entitled not to. Here's why (a few choice reasons, there are many more)

1.) You are home to more extreme religious fanatics / right-wing nutjobs per capita than any other country since Nazi Germany (with the possible exception of Iran).
2.) For the past 100 years you have flouted the sovereignty of countless other nations to further your own aims, values and religion.
3.) Recently, you set off a war which has cost hundreds of thousands of lives, and we still don't know why you did it.

    4.) You re-elected Bush
5.) The Americans we get to see abroad tend to be loud, arrogant and somewhat brutish.
    6.) You're sore losers.
7.) Some of you actually listen to Glenn Beck.
8.) Others amongst you considered voting for the bimbo-***-lunatic that is Sarah Palin.

US Politics. You're all just idiots.
Says the person who voted for Nick Clegg.

    Spoiler:
    Show
    Joke

9.) You are a country built on immigration, and yet you are now doing your best to persecute immigrants.
    oh and
10.) Despite the guaranteed right to freedom of speech, the liberty which is mentioned so often as sacred in your consitution, and so many other big statements, when a normal, everyday man tries to expose your inner dealings to the public, your leaders accuse him of terrorism and start an international manhunt for him.
11.) Socialism is practically a swearword in your country.

Of course no one is perfect, so here's a few reasons I do like your country.

1.) You are home to some of the most intelligent, witty and kind people in the world.
2.) You are home to the worlds finest universities.
    3.) You elected Obama
    4.) Family Guy
5.) Great TV in general actually
6.) American football (not quite as good as rugby but still awesome)
7.) You have an astounding amount of places that have amazing natural beauty.
    8.) NYC
To be fair all the other countries were kissing America's butt and just following them e.g. Britain(yes I'm british).

Secondly I doubt any democratic society is actually 'liberal'

But I agree 100% on Sarah Palin why is it that she actually has a chance at becoming president...

No you're not. You're a nation of intolerance, with an illegal war under your belt that you are still fighting so many of your laws are terrible and bordering on lunacy.
What is illegal about this war? Please, enlighten me because as far as I knew it was perfectly legal. Iraq and Afghan And please isn't this the same country with the terrorist act of 2006 and the same country that arrest people for burning books? That is intolerance. If Britain was Sweden or something, then yes, but this is Britain not point in getting all high and mighty.

lol such a bad question. We owned you but you never owned us. We punch above our weight, while your contribution to the wprld, expecially in your poor campaign in Iraq as John bolton himself admite, is mismattched with your resources.

Isn't it amazing how English, the language of one of the smallest countires in the world, is spoken by the most powerful country today?

I find America to be a real interesting country because I have some sort of love/hate opinion of it: half of it I really appreciate and admire, the rest I find very repulsive.

    Here's a summary:
    Good Points
Openness, friendliness, entrepreneurial spirit, work ethic, meritocracy, melting pot, innovation hotspots, willingness to be direct and solve problems.

    Bad points
Religion and overly conservative values everywhere, nationalist tendencies, contemptous and condescending attitude to foreign nations, furthering of own interests at the expense of others, extensive hypocrisy and self delusion, loons in government, militaristic attitude, rudeness and violence.

Disliking Americans is meaningless, because you have so types of people there. However most people are wary of the american government, and when they say they hate americans, it's usually a reference to the oblivious, bumbling WASP tourist.

Actually, America probably gives the most British abuse. Abuse from the French doesn't count because they've had a long rivalry with us.

Plus, Americans don't realise it. Now THAT'S irony.
