Good rappers are talented, Good lyrics, good flow, abstracts thoughts, the use of excellent metaphors and cool concepts.
Trust me you've got it all wrong. Anyone can rap, but only good ones deserve credit. Anyone can sing but only singers that write their own songs deserve credit
    Snoop Dogg - 20 Dollars 2 My Name -

Nothing left to do, but buy some shells for my glock
Why? so I can rob every known dope spot
I got 19 dollars and 50 cents up in my pocket with what?
    With this automatic rocket
Gotta have it to pop it, unlock it, and take me up a hostage

    Outkast - Ain't No Thang -

I'd do it if I have to
bustin caps with this a heat and load it clip up after clip
I'm packin my gauge, if I feel it
The glock, the gat, the nine, the heaters
See I be bustin caps like my amp be bustin speakers
So how do you figure that Big Boi be scared to blast ya
You 'posed to be quickest draw, but man, I hail em faster
1-2-3, you need to think about the future
Before I shoot your ass and dilute your blood with lead
From my hollow tips, I'll send you to an early grave

    Tha Eastsidaz - Another Day

How much dirt have I done
    My life has just begun
    I sleep with my gun
    My problems weigh a ton...
Live by the gun die by the gun

Big Pun - Brave In The Heart

I'm from where the guns love to introduce theyself
Reduce your health, little bulletproofs get felt
Make way for krill, I don't play I spray for real
Blow your top with the glock, that's my favourite kill
Blaze your crib with like thirty shots
I'm already hot, but my last one is with some dirty cops
Blow a hole through your ribs just for runnin your lips
The street's a trip; either you deep or you sleep with the fish

    Notorious BIG - Come On

I shot dread in the head, took the bread and the landspread
Lil' Gotti got the shotty to your body
So don't resist, or you might miss Christmas
I tote guns, I make number runs
I give emcees the runs drippin
when I throw my clip in the AK, I slay from far away
    Everybody hit the DECK

    C-Murder - Constantly 'N Danger

    Bulletproof vest on my chest
And bulletproof windshields to catch the rest...
My money bigger, huh, so I got a bigger gun too
I keep a nine with me, if you want me come get me
You shoot first... you better hit me
I keep a close eye on a stranger...
    Cause I'm constantly in danger

Ludacris - Cry Babies (Oh No)

I caught him with a blow to the chest
My hollow put a hole in his vest
I'm bout to send two to his dome
    Cry babies go home!
I just bought some new guns my mama said "it ain't worth it"
But I'm at the shooting range just cause
    practice makes perfect

    2Pac - Five Deadly Venomz

I got a glock that say 'Pac run the block...
    My gauge gets me... PAID
As I sit and reminisce about the old days
Hugging on my AK... getting played, hey ...
I pop a clip and grip my nine tight
Now it's on everyday could be my last day
That's why I blast on they ass as I past let the glass spray

    Choppa Zone by Plies

    better ride with your fire
    stay ya a*s home
    Why?
because you in a mutha f**kin chopper zone!
And any FLAGGIN n**ga live will cut them choppers on.
    Why?
cuz you in a mutha f**kin chooper zone!
Where tha jack boyz hang an where da goonz roam
    Why?
cuz you in a mutha f**kin chopper zone!
Keep one in tha chamber cuz c*ckin it take too long!
    Why?
cuz you in a mutha f**kin chopper zone!

Surely you must be talking about pop and Rnb music, because rappers write their own lyrics mate. That's what makes them talented unlike the shyt you get off the charts nowadays, where their songs are written for them and all they have is a good voice which they were born with.
    ...

You've never heard of ghost writers? Snoop Dogg's album with 'Sensual Seduction' had songs written by others.

All artists must have the same beat machine/software cos it all sounds the same.

Not really, I think the smiley accurately reflected how I felt upon viewing such a juvenile and obtuse post.I have no desire to defend the genre to you if that is what you are expecting, mainly because I don't give a ****. I love Hip Hop music and my life will be no better or worse whether you share that opinion or not

Deep Puddle Dynamics - The Scarecrow Speaks
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEHIldAAd6c

    'Okay everyone
    put away your boyish desires
    Your buoyant sighs
    Your rolling eyes
Your lust for roll and rock
Your lust for getting rocks off with other follies
All your desires for couch and TV
Pick up a book, pick up a shovel
Put down the gun, throw up the fist
Throw intelligent words in this game of conversation
    Try a new arrangement
    Dollars and sensibility
    Intelligence and ability
    Eloquence and nobility
    Delicatessens
Treat your girl like you treat your TV
How you should use your headphones
    and positive role models
    Try staying home
    Stop trying to prove
Stop trying to be, stop trying to do
Just be proof, do, and exist
    Go to college
    Respect your mother
Look out for your little sister
    Respect no one except yourself
Treat all others how you expect in return
    Exercise intellect
    If you're lackin pretend
Call few people enemies and call fewer people friends
Don't do it for the wealth, do it all for the love
Love everything you do, and do nothing halfheartedly
    Be what you speak
Man, never speak on what you be
Even if you're lost, front like you got a plan
It aint that hard, but stand if
you're ready to be a man'

    Gangstarr - Moment of Truth
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lH3hrtp1T84

'Sometimes you gotta dig deep, when problems come near
Don't fear things get severe for everybody everywhere
Why do bad things happen, to good people?
Seems that life is just a constant war between good and evil
The situation that I'm facin, is mad amazin
To think such problems can arise from minor confrontations
Now I'm contemplatin in my bedroom pacin
Dark clouds over my head, my heart's racin
Suicide? nah, I'm not a foolish guy
Don't even feel like drinking, or even gettin high
Cause all that's gonna do really, is accelerate
The anxieties that I wish I could alleviate
But wait, I've been through a whole lot of other ****, before
So I oughta be able, to withstand some more
But I'm sweatin though, my eyes are turnin red and yo
I'm ready to lose my mind but instead I use my mind
I put down the knife, and take the bullets out my nine
My only crime, was that I'm too damn kind
And now some skanless mother ****ers wanna take what's mine
But they can't take the respect, that I've earned in my lifetime
And you know they'll never stop the furious force of my rhymes
So like they say, every dog has it's day
And like they say, God works in a mysterious way
So I pray, remembering the days of my youth
As I prepare to meet my moment of truth '

    Living Legends - Neglected
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdPnbWPCcMs

Momma whats wrong with me, I've got a lovely family and friends
And thats enough to make ends meet **** dividends
But I be livin' in a lonely ass world
Searchin' for the perfect woman, not a little girl
See, they be dressin' all trashy actin' sassy
Spreadin' em for flashy fast talkers with the cash, me
    I can't compete with that
I use a beat and raps, to fill the gap within my soul
    But thats gettin' old
And I be gettin' told told to spit game man
But to me that ****s lame, I use my mind not a pick-up line
It's sick how quick they find comfort in a one night sin
I might end up celibate for the hell of it
And tell a grip of stories, 'bout how I want a wife
How they be lookin' nice, but dont be actin' right
And if you slackin' they might lead you to debt
Take your last givin(?) penny, the thought makes me stress
Unless, I find a woman with a strong sense of self respect
I'll be alone, feending cause I felt neglect

    Sole - Plutonium
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cckvKSssmNk

'divided we take our antidepressants and make our appointments,
let the dolphins die, but who's gonna save the humans?
i've been to a million cities and they're all the same:
people laugh and talk the same,
girls all flirt the same, employees all dream the same.
love your grid and your comfort zone,
look out for the white-girl suicide bombers,
look out for your time or your piece of mind
or entertainment above the fifth grade level.
stay ignorant and easily corralled through conservative reforms
'til we're broke from the half-measures,
taxed to the teeth to fund the caste system.
living it up for our stereotypes
    and i know nothing, but at least i know;
while they vote green and drink their espressos,
    discussing film festivals, all as a write-off. off with your head;
    body loves the dirty work,
love your job, but it will never love you like an automobile,
fetuses, peoples, and angels hang the same on the mobile.
if it wasn't for the blindfold, you'd ask,
"what am i looking for, living for, breathing for?"
"who's them? not i, but it must be the plutonium in me.'

Dont want to ruin this by quoting it..

Listen to the whole thing, forget the video.. a very chilling tale.

    Atmosphere - Caved In
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaBZDD-4__U

'The door opened, in walked my brother
    Terrified, teary-eyed, I'm wide open
Only to hear our father died
    It's not true, I'm hopin'
I need some air, I'm chokin
Get me off this ride, where's life goin?
    Feelin' I'm lost, I'm frozen
    Suspended in mid-traumatized state
Why I'm chosen for this fate? I don't know
Head shakes back and forth emotional
    Unsociable, not speakin'
    Remainin silent, cause I'm weakened
    Deep inside I'm freakin'
Want my father back, I need him
    Why's God cheatin?
Takin' half the two that gave me life
My mind replaces thought, now no longer can I sleep at night
Not feelin' right, insecure, now what's my future lookin' like?
Ain't dealt with death before, age 11 and can't take no more
My hands on the floor cause my stomachs feelin' sick and I was mad at the Lord
Because he took him all too quick that day
On his way to pick me up, he never made it
Blamed it all on myself, therefore I dwelled in self-hatred
On a path called destruct, many thought I wouldn't make it
I hate it, the way I feel, but I just can't seem to shake it
Somebody take it away, this mad situation
My world is breakin' and I feel I'm 'bout to cave in'

You were quoting one style of rap about big ego and agressive delivery rather than social, cultural or political reference or intelligent wordplay.

You could do that with any genre.. 'metals all screaming *insert screams* this is crap *insert crap*

Notably, I recall Seamus Heaney(nobel laureate, literature, 1995) being asked if there was anyone around whom he considered "lyrically exciting", he mentioned Eminem, a statement with which I completely agree.

I don't think you get what I'm saying. I was merely pointing out that you don't know what you are talking about seeing as you most probably haven't been hearing garage music on any buses

I'm 2 days late replying. But do you honestly think your opinion on hip hop counts if you cant even distinguish it from garage?

If you dont even know what something it, you'll have a pretty significant problem in trying to have an opinion on it
