Starting to panic about intercalated applications! Has anyone applied as an external student before? I'm applying to Kings, Barts, and Imperial, I think...
I personally know a few who have experienced applying externally from George's but no, I don't actually know anyone on TSR who has externally intercalated. I'm applying externally to King's too. What are you hoping to intercalate in?

    Oh ****.

New plan: Applying to Kings, Barts, Imperial....
Don't worry he mainly teaches on the 5-year course, I don't think he has much to do with the intercalated degrees.

Regenerative Medicine & Innovation Technology at Kings, Biomedical Engineering at Barts, or Surgery & Anaesthesia at Imperial. With Orthopaedic Technology at Dundee as a last resort :awesome: Are you the one who was talking about doing an iBSc Physiology a few pages back?

I really liked the human nutrition module I did at Southampton. We had some lectures from the lady who wrote the paper telling everyone to eat something like 5 walnuts a day because you'd get all the selenium you needed that way and selenium was really good. Then she had to retract it because eating that many walnuts makes you radioactive. It was hilarious trying to watch her cover that one up in lectures. On a more serious note, the bits we did about how to approach treating aneamia in malnourishment cases because it's usually managed wrong were very interesting.
We've barely had any yet, I like the guy who does it but in terms of the content... Not for me!

Yeah, for now I think I'll try and get onto studying a broader based subject for my intercalated degree. Your choices are way too specialised for my liking - I have no idea what I want to do when I graduate!

Our first formative one I went for the conflict and biological sciences option and constructed the title Chimera Viruses and their Applications in Modern Biological Warfare. I think I may have scared some people by how interesting I found them all - deadly but so, so clever. I have a bf in the army, hence the sticker in my sig and he was the inspiration for that one, listening to tales of him being gassed in training. The two I have been allocated for this year are Biofilms which I love because I am a paid up geek and I think they're really clever, and Eczema in Children, which lets me go on to the childrens ward and shadow consultants and talk to kids, I'm so excited - an actual ward! We haven't gotten to do anything like that yet. I was really happy as both of these were my choices, and the eczema one is a highly competitive one. Although I was sort of hoping I'd get the how to talk to kids one called "Help, They're Putting Ivy in my veins!" Ah, and to add to your list we call 'em SSU's.
Being gassed in training?? :eek3: with what??
They all sound awesome (well the biofilm one slightly less so :p:) having a good few that you know you'll find interesting is cool

    SSC/SSM/SSS/SSU

That would be awesome if he were. I'd consider doing a iBscs in plant potology if it meant I got to drink with greatness.

Hi. I'm also applying to King's for physiology (as well as Leeds). I don't expect to get in though. My year one grades were pretty average.

Cool, who knows - we might end up in the same class this time next year! :p:

Have you looked at the application form? I'm actually surprised we have to fill in our A-Level grades. I averaged about 74% in first year but I hear they place more weighting on centile rankings, which doesn't do my marks any justice. I came 26th (first quartile) in the clinical sciences yet 73rd and 79th in CPH/PPD and the OSCE respectively, which was in the third quartile. I feel inclined to say that CPH/PPD shouldn't count. :shh:

Edit: There's about 140 in my year.

I hope it remains a non-story - Reynolds is already in the **** with H&F council, and with the SU for not pulling it's weight financially
