Okay, this is probably the most basic question I can ask but oh well! Could somebody please give me a set definition for 'Organisation Culture?! I just cant get my head around what culture ACTUALLY is all about!
Its just how people behave and act at work. "how things are done around here".
In my house it's part of our culture that I take out the bin.
That's how we do it around our house.

    I hope it makes sense.

Right. Done with BUSS3, as per request I'll post some more revision notes.
I'll periodically post my flashcards on certain Businesses.

    • Company Name - Google

    • Leadership Style - Laissez Faire
    • Ownership - Plc
    • Culture -
    1. Hofstede - Low Power Distance, Individualism, Low Uncertainty Avoidance, Feminine.
    2. Handy - Task Culture
    3. Schein - No Dress Code, Focused on Customers, Reliant on information.

    • History - Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in March 1996 as a Student project. It gained significant funding over the course of the late 90s and implemented advertisements for a self sustaining revenue source. It quickly began to grow, gaining an 88.8% worldwide market share and acquired Pyra Labs, YouTube, DoubleClick, Admob, Zagat and recently Motorola Mobility. Google has recently suffered controversy over Tax Avoidance and Streetview hacking.

What have people said about ways of changing culture apart from a new leader?
Here's all i have on the matter, hope anyone can add to it

    Four elements to change

    • Change is the result of dissatisfaction with present strategies.

    - Why has this occured?
    - What is the dissatisfaction and why has it occured?

    • Essential to develop a vision for a better alternative

    - What is the vision? e.g. Zappos's culture is built on its core values.

    • It's neccessary to develop strategies to implement change

    - Any resistance to change?

    • There will be resistance to change no matter how little

Incremental changes in a company tend to be with cultural change
    - Changes occur over a period of time in incremental steps
e.g. Barclays set out a 5 year plan... led to an increase in performance.

    Step change occurs rapidly
    e.g Kraft and Cadbury

    Theory to include:
Lewins Force Field model -> Use if the question is on change!
    • Driving forces -> Why does the business have to change?
    • Restraining forces -> Limiting change or preventing it

    hope this helps!

    1. Understanding mission aims and objectives.
    2. The relationship between business and the economic environment.
    3. The relationship between business and the social environment.
    4. The relationship between business and the political and legal environment.
    5. The relationship between business and the technological environment.
    6. The relationship between business and the competitive environment.
    7. Internal causes of change.
    8. Planning for change.
    9. Leadership.
    10. Culture.
    11. Making strategic decisions.
    12. Implementing and managing change.

There wouldn't be any Section A examples considering there hasn't been a Section A on Culture before. (I'm pretty sure there hasn't anyway.)
yea all the section a's have been different however culture has been asked on section b before.

june 2012 there was a question on it, it would be good to have a look at it and the mark scheme/examiners report

In terms of Eric schmidt's leadership style, wouldnt you say its more of a democratic style? Google have regular meetings with their employees and encourage them to be innovative and put their ideas forward.
