Oh gosh, same. My trip to Shanghai cancelled at the last moment and now I have nothing to do at all. I found a job but I'm still struggling to keep myself occupied, preparing for the future, etc.

I've been trying to keep really busy, to make the most out of this year out and so far I have completed an intensive CELTA course in London and absolutely loved it! Now I hope to use it to teach abroad (in Spain or Italy) for a couple of months. If anyone wants any advice on CELTA/TEFL qualifications, I'm happy to help.

Does anybody have anything to add about stay at home gap years? I have a fairly good job at the moment and I'm feeling good saving the majority of my money for uni but honestly I'm getting a bit bored and feeling kind of useless. I don't have any resits or anything but hopefully I'm starting driving lessons soon but I don't know what else? Travelling is kind of out of the question because £££ and holidays are difficult with my job being a zero hours contract one. What are other people in a similar situation up to?

Skills is always an option?? learn a language, instrument or something...

Sport/ getting healthy is something maybe?

Work Experience maybe? that could help with placements/ getting a job after Uni (degree dependent i suppose) or maybe Volunteering? Although that's difficult with 0 hour contract im guessing.

Personally I love Music gigs and Football so that's what I do with my spare time but if thats not your thing then clearly there not for you!

Hey I just found this thread! I am also on a gap year right now due to not getting any offers last year. I was beginning to think I was one of the only ones aha!
At the moment I am studying some short courses in London, studying for resists to up my A2 grades, learning to drive and I am currently looking for a job and some work experience. I am also hoping to travel next summer after my resists. But I still find myself at home watching Facebook and Netflix with little to do which sucks and gets pretty lonely when I can't find anyone to hang out with
Anyone got any suggestions or experience on anything else I could do? And is there anyone is also on a gap year in or around London?? x

Hey there, I'm in kind of the exact same position as you. I got a conditional for St Andrews last year but unfortunately didn't meet the grades, so I'm on an unexpected year out. I'm also studying for a resit to up an A2 grade, and I've picked up A2 English to keep me working academically. I've just completed a month intensive CELTA course in London, so again, similar to you! Oh and I'm also trying (and failing) to find a job, and I'm also trying to find some work exp. I can give you one tip though, avoid Facebook! Looking at Facebook and what all you're friends are doing at uni will make you feel more lonely and depressed, so try and avoid that and find something productive to do, like learn a language or something - I'm trying to learn Mandarin haha.

If you're looking for experience, have you looked at Do-it Volunteering? That might be useful to gain experience. I don't know what you're hoping to study next year but looking at yearoutgroup.org might be useful as it categories gap year companies into work experience/voluntary/subject/internship/travel that kind of thing. Looking at websites such as UNA Exchange, European Youth Portal, UNV online Volunteering, or just any gap year student blog is helpful to get ideas of what to do - that's what I did!

Um..that's all I can think of at the moment. As I'm looking to study earth sciences next year I researched companies such as BP and Shell, as well as charities such as English Heritage and the National Trust to see if they offered work exp/volunteering and what it was. Maybe you could do a similar thing and google relevant companies? Maybe contact them asking about work exp?

    Hope this helped.

By the way I live in the South East - if that qualifies as living near-ish London.

How are you going there? With a gap year company? Or your own savings? If so, how did you plan what you were going to do there? Thanks.

We have said this before on another forum, but it's really important that you do something good for your CV on a year out. We'd love you to come and do AmeriCamp. You can say to employers afterwards that you have worked in a foreign country, with people from all around the world and (hopefully) succeeded.

In fact check it out www.AmeriCamp.co.uk

    You even get #FreeBiscuits x

    #AmeriChristmas x

yea but it would cost way too much, and I'm only planning to go after my exams (don't want to put my A-levels at risk),which does not leave a lot of time for travelling anyway.

    Thanks but no thanks
