Yeah. I think laws are good.
Or, y'know, you can move from Norway if you're not willing to follow its laws.
I heard Venezuela was a good spot for socialists, maybe you should try that . So you are against freedoms for people to do anything they want apart from murder, rape, burglary, theft, fraud etc etc etc?

Your arguments are so weak that they're laughable. At least the other guy was still educated and made valid points, even though I obviously didn't agree with him.

[QUOTE=Multitalented me;64915477]I was recently debating with a feminist & this topic crossed my mind, opinions???[/QUOTE

As a group women are still oppressed more in the world than men. It is easy to focus on western societies where the differences are less than the majority of the world where women can be little more than the property of there male relatives. In the Uk things are much better but there is still some way to go.

Human beings are discriminatory by nature and it is my opinion that it is not sex v sex or race v race but strong v weak, at least on an individual level. then in group v outgroup when people come together.

There are groups that are discriminated against much worse than women. An ugly or at least unattractive person finds it harder to make friends find a mate, are less likely to be loved by there parent and less likely to be adopted if in care. They find it harder to succeed in career or education, more likely to be bullied or ostracised.

We do this to each other because we are just smart chimps, more evolution needed.

Men get longer prison sentences for the same crimes that a women could do.

This is highly unfair, as gender should not play in to this matter.
No 2 crimes are always exactly similar so I highly doubt this is true. If a woman kills a person and gets 5 years and a man kills someone and gets 10 years, it doesn't mean it was based of gender it could do with how premeditated the murder was, how brutal it was, why, was it self defence or an accident? ,etc.

Boohoo. Cry more about it. There's a reason Norway and Scandinavian countries are doing so amazingly well. It's because of socialism.
    They aren't socialist

But, there have been studies surrounding this and they support that women receive shorter sentences most of the time.

I suppose yes and it is unfair and I think they should stop that but it can be easily avoided just don't commit crimes

It's not about that, It's about reform and women been in there shorter really isn't going to give them as much reform as a male who has to spend extra time in there.

If a female can get out in 5 years reformed, then why can't a man?

Like I said it's unfair and I don't know why a female can get out earlier, I don't make the rules? There are people who will fight for these rights, some feminists, the good ones also fight for the rights of men so hopefully that can be stopped in the future. But again it's something that can be avoided at least, just don't commit a crime. There are some sexism issues that cannot be avoided.

In terms of societal pressures..... meh I'd say men more so.

It's now deemed sexist to pressure a woman to undertake traditionally held female roles. Not so for men.

Women are encouraged to leave the home to work. It's still frowned on upon men to be stay at home dads.

Western Countries that still practice conscription still discriminate based on gender. Generally speaking Norway and Israel are the main western exceptions. Most countries such as Switzerland, Denmark and the Netherlands still only require men.

The ability to dress however they want.... women win this hands down (outside of religious nutcases).

Rights concerning parenting, despite legalities saying otherwise, men do still have a rough time with this.

Domestic abuse, often seen as a non-problem for men, despite official stats showing at least 40% of all victims are male in the UK, domestic abuse ignoring violence often has a much higher rate of men and in some western countries the majority of domestic abuse victims of all types are men.

Demonizing of men #1 Feminist stereotyping that the most dangerous family member against a child is the Father. A breakdown of statistics actually shows 'stepfathers' are the most likely, followed by biological mothers, biological fathers and then step mothers. The reason the Father statistic is used is the fact that often step parents are grouped into father or mother stats. A stepfather in reality is up to 8.5 times more likely to kill a child than their biological father (Violence and Victims, Volume 19, Number 1, February 2001), and a stepmothers killing children is so low it skews the result. Children under the age of 6-8 (can't remember the precise age) are most likely of being killed by their biological mothers (even over stepfathers), with children under a year being almost always killed by their biological mothers.

Demonizing of men #2 Rape culture, Date rape drugs and abuse culture. It's often heard that women are afraid of walking alone, being around loud men etc. While sexual harassment does occur on nights out it is also an issue experienced by men. Women often state they will cross the road from loud men or those they don't seem to like the look of. The reality of the matter is if any violent crime happens it is usually a male perpetrator and a male victim. When it comes to women, it is usually a female perpetrator and a female victim. Not only are men at the most risk of violent crime but they are demonized for attacking women when statistics don't actually back this up. And concerning date rape drugging incidents? Studies have shown most of the time alcohol (itself classified as a date rape drug) is the main culprit, with it often consumed voluntarily (aka not slipping 6 shots into someone's drink etc), however we have charities that receive million in funding and also commercial products aimed at women to help prevent men slipping drugs into women's drinks.

Now if you look purely legally? Pretty equal, maybe men suffer under divorce settlement laws, especially in terms of money and children. However the money issue is generally shared by higher earners and the children issue is more of a societal issue. Despite it's sexist to see women a primary caregivers to children, feminists stop complaining when it gets them custody of children. Feminists in Canada and America are incredibly anti presumed equal parenting.

Education and in the work place? There are some points women have a worse deal being paid less, however when the level of happiness is measure it's often find women feel more fulfilled and men less so. Also a change in bread earner socialisation has actually reduced both men and woman's happiness, which for men has meant further spikes in suicides.

TLDR: well I'd say there are examples of both sexes being oppressed in the western world, albeit men more so.
A simple addition to this is that when a kid turns out a delinquent everyone says:

"Must not have had a father." Lol we've so many expectations.

Well the judges would have to be dumb if they thought that? if I personally had to guess why they give softer sentences to women it may be because men are stereotyped sometimes as "dangerous" and women are seen as "weak" and "fragile" so it's probably just steroetypcial views of men and women but idk?

I think it's quite telling that one of your examples of women having started wars is a mythological figure. Besides which, you apparently bizarrely regard her kidnapping causing a war as somehow making the war her fault?
If she existed or not is debatable but that is a different topic. Still doesn't make any of the other historical female figures any less valid.

I only replied to someone who was not informed that women in history also have a part in the creation of wars (despite being a female myself).

But hey, I just offered my two cents. I've made my valid point and I don't see what else there is to argue. I prefer to keep things civil.

    Have a nice day.

I swear lefties are some of the biggest morons I've ever had the misfortune to come across, can't even go one paragraph without contradicting themselves... :^)
Hey! We're not all bad, some of us like to think with our heads rather than asses.

I agree with you though, I consider myself left-centre but the new generation of lefties drive me nuts, especially the "progressive" privileged middle-class tumblrina SJW types who think everyone's out to get them and are hell bent on destroying capitalism using the power of their twitter account that's logged in on their top of the range iphone 6 with a danisnotonfire phonecase.

Internet activism is (some of the time) the laziest type of activism. But...I'm getting way ahead of myself.
