well the whole purpose of a race is something that unites all with common functions, such as geographical location, skin colout etc, islam is precieved as a race as all people inside islam share common beliefs an values, such a imbisle you are in that you are like a kid always irrelevant in everything you say and always not straight to the point.

mod muppets need to close this thread, look at the title of thread, fukin racists
Lookup 'race' and educate yourself, silly little cretin.

Shame that you feel the need to brandish around such an overused, misapplied term. You obviously can't provide anything credible to the thread, apart from incorrectly dropping the race card.

Is Islam a race?
Yes, it is. A race can be any collection of humans who are considered as a group. This grouping doesn't have to be based on skin colour.

race

n.

1. A local geographic or global human population distinguished as a more or less distinct group by genetically transmitted physical characteristics.
2. A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: the German race.
3. A genealogical line; a lineage.
4. Humans considered as a group.
5. Biology.
1. An interbreeding, usually geographically isolated population of organisms differing from other populations of the same species in the frequency of hereditary traits. A race that has been given formal taxonomic recognition is known as a subspecies.
2. A breed or strain, as of domestic animals.
6. A distinguishing or characteristic quality, such as the flavor of a wine

There's no reason why Muslims can't be grouped together as one race.

Care to name your dictionary source and provide a link?

Using that logic, I could form my own 'race' by gathering people who believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Or perhaps Star Wars fans can now be considered a 'race', using the wonderful logic of your source, they are a humans considered as a group. What about socialists? Shall we now consider them a 'race'? They are a group of humans following a specific ideology.

Just go on google and type in the word "race", and on the right side of the screen it should give you a definition.

Or if you don't like that dictionary, Oxford gives this definition:

race

• noun 1 each of the major divisions of humankind, having distinct physical characteristics. 2 racial origin or distinction: rights based on race. 3 a group of people sharing the same culture, language, etc.; an ethnic group. 4 a group of people or things with a common feature. 5 Biology a distinct population within a species; a subspecies.

No, I've been looking up the word "race" in the dictionary.

They can both be considered as a race, according to the OED.

People in the prophet's (pbuh) time didn't need to read and write. The main quality people had was to remember verses because poetry was a very important thing in those times. That is why when the quran was revealed, nobody could produce a single passage anywhere near as beautiful as those of the quran, and due to this many people even became muslim.

But... Islam teaches that Kafirs are hated by God and will go to hell. Isn't that racist towards non-Muslims?

So we should place Muhammad on par with the average 7th century Arab man?
His life was a simple one. His wives were never allowed to use his position to gain advantages over others. He lived in a straw house ffs. Yes, he was an average 7th century man, he epitomizes everything good about Islam - including equality.

Islam is not a race.

Common culture? No. Indian muslims have very different customs to Saudi muslims.

Same Language? Only Arabic is similar. That's because of the Quran. If we go by that logic, we can presume that everyone who speaks english is part of the christian race (hmmm?)

Racial origin/Distinction: You'll find Muslims with origins from the four corners of this earth.

Group of people or things with a common feature: The common feature is that they practice Islam, but that doesn't make them a race.

No. Racism is:
-the belief that there are characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to each race.
-discrimination against or antagonism towards other races.

Islam does not believe that non-muslims have any characteristics, abilites or qualities specific to them. And it does not teach Muslims to discriminate against them either.

It simply states that something will happen to them.

3 a group of people sharing the same culture, language, etc.; an ethnic group.
We can see that the use of etcetera signifies that the list is not limited, they are clearly only two aspects of what is considered an 'ethnic group', the term Oxford English Dictionary uses to summarise its list.

I think you will find that Muslims are not an ethnic group.

4 a group of people or things with a common feature.
Oxford English Dictionary describes a 'feature' as:

• noun 1 a distinctive attribute or aspect. 2 a part of the face, such as the mouth, making a significant contribution to its overall appearance. 3 a newspaper or magazine article or a broadcast programme devoted to a particular topic. 4 (also feature film) a full-length film intended as the main item in a cinema programme.
Nowhere does that definition mention the terms 'ideology, 'religion' or 'beliefs'.

We can debate the semantics of 'race' all day; however, you will find that this attempt at grasping broad definitions to try and portray Islam as a race is a futile activity. There is simply no justification for using the term 'racist' when responding to a criticism in regards to Islam. It's a weak, incorrect retaliation.

Yes it does. Nobody said that this "common feature" had to be skin colour.

The definition simply states "a common feature". Islam is a common feature.

I didn't say they are an ethnic group. I said that they are a race.

Oxford English Dictionary describes a 'feauture' as:

noun 1 a distinctive attribute or aspect. 2 a part of the face, such as the mouth, making a significant contribution to its overall appearance. 3 a newspaper or magazine article or a broadcast programme devoted to a particular topic. 4 (also feature film) a full-length film intended as the main item in a cinema programme.

The practice of Islam is a distinctive aspect of Muslims. So it's a common feature.

It's not confusing me, you just disagree with both the Google dictionary and the Oxford dictionary.

Of course, you have the right to disagree with the Oxford English Dictionary if you wish - but at least I can say that I've backed up my point, instead of trying to debate using insults.

Okay, let me finish this off.

Kurdish Muslims.

Which race do they belong to? The Kurdish race? Your so-called Muslim race? or both races?
