Oh our class has been spending one lesson a week on it.

There are 6 controversy essays like 'gender bias in research' and other things. We have to learn all of them.

Then you do one topic and one application
and one extra from either.

And theres 5 essays within each topic/application

so all together we learn 21 (about 2 and half) essays for PY4

Sorry! :frown: I think I looked at this thread a while ago and forgot to look back again until today haha
Ohh well when we did a mock in class I ran out of time for conclusions and my teacher gave me 13/15 marks, so hopefully if that's the case here, 26/30 marks should get you an A  Did you find the rest of it ok?

It will be far lower than that for an A. Your going to think Im crazy, but it's about 61% for an A in psych :| if you look at the examiners report on WJEC website they give a detailed break down of how they grade each paper ie the number of raw marks for each grade, the average mark and how everyone answered each question...

hey, have a look at the link which mel0n has posted on this page (community-tes link)

and you'll see that according to one of the teachers there, they have changed the questions :O

Yes I know. I asked the question after it came to light elsewhere.

I am far more up on this than you might think.

They did change the question and they did not inform all centres. There are already complaints going in to WJEC.

Of course the big issue isnt in the questions which were fairly preictable. I managed nearly all of them for my students. The problem is going to be how stiff the marking is. We wont know that until March.

Of course its only a 40% weighting so doing well in PY 4 is more important. I wouldnt think they could go far wrong with marking research methods as its basically mathematical so its right or wrong as in maths , but knowing that WJEC use non specialists ( ie people who have no idea about psychology) to mark the papers, I will hold my breath.

Tbh, apparently even though they changed the wording of the question it won't affect the way it's marked. They're still assessing AO3 either way, I've been told and therefore there was no harm in writing out the same essays that we learnt before we found out about the wording being changed.

EDIT: They actually use non-specialists? :\
mel0n
Do you use WJEC past papers? I find that their mark schemes are a bit ****. :ninja:

I cant see how anyone can be using WJEC past poapers and mark schemes as there are none really. I have one past paper and mark scheme for PY2 two for PY1 and none for PY3 or PY4 .

The past papers and mark schemes refer to a previous specification and are not suitable for the new spec . The specimin papers and mark schemes are proving useless because they question structure has been changed whilst we were teaching it!

But these problems are no different to those of AQA and OCR who have both made changes far more significant.

Thats moot! The injunction to " Discus" in fact requires a very different framework for an answer to that of "Explain with relevent examples".

However, it is my understanding ( however fragile right now) that the questions will be marked using the mark scheme as we were given it, which means students needed to write answers which included relevent examples and an explaination!

Make what sense you can of that!

Eugh I guess I wouldn't have done that well then. :emo:

They are not supposed to but they did last year, which is why results were so hey wire in the last January sits. Most of the examiners handt a clue what they were marking. It was said this was because of the expotential rise in numbers taking the WJEC board exam - and WJEC had not expected it and couldnt get enough specialists and teachers.

WJEC nodded toward the problem but wont admit it officially. However, I know that some scripts were badly marked amongst my own lot although a couple had been re marked and re graded upwards of seven marks . The others were not so moderated and it was an issue.

Some centres had major issues with U grades as a result of marking.

My biggest worry is that as a small centre we frequently get tagged onto a larger centre or a couple of centres and moderation does not pick up marking inconsistencies in those instances. Hence some of my students had scripts re marked and others did not.
The big issue for me is if my lot get tagged to a crap centre they get under marked because stupid examiners dont look and realise they have different ability kids and answers because they are not marking ther same schools. They consequently get a mindset for one type of answer and when the format changes , especially when it might change to an imporved one, they cannot accept it!

I say this because I teach in a top indi school and my students are top class ( as is my teaching of course)

Aaaah! Yeah their marking is really inconsistent. Last year we had a lot of papers back and there were questions that got 4 marks when they should have got at least 8, according to the Psychology teachers. I do go to a really quite good college and the psychology results have never been so low! With AQA, about 40 people in the year above us got full marks on their A2 January module, we're told, yet teaching standards are still the same but with this exam board it's been so hard to get good grades!

oh I'm not trying to suggest that you're not on the ball, I just wanted to hear your opinion on the matter. I hope to see you posting on the PY4 thread
I hate this board:frown: There seem to be so many errors in our books, plus doing it through distance learning have only finished the spec on monday ahhh:s-smilie:

PY4 seems more scary than PY3
but with regards to PY3, I know the advantages of the scientific method

but don't have much on the disadvantages..

what sorta stuff is that?

disadvantages of scientific methodology...

lacks ecological validity/mundane realism, experimenter bias, demand characteristics etc.
hey guys,
does anyone have model answers that are 15/15 kinda area for the last section (2 essay questions out of a choice of 3) as i am desperate and my college is useless at providing them!!!! preferably models answers for all 6 possibilities would be appreciated!!!!
i will love you long time! ha
There are 6 possibilities??? I thought it was only the scientific method, ways of dealing with ethical issues with human participants, ethical issues with human participants and ethical issues with animals?
