That was a nice case, seeing as i have already given one I won't repeat it.

IT IS TOO EASY TO OBTAIN FOR FULL TIME EDUCATION STUDENTS...THE TOPIC IS ON EMA...NOT JSA OR ANY OTHER INCOME SUPPORT.

    Can't get a job?Do community service.

There is no excuse besides disability to not get of your arse.
You really are a ****. I know people who are carers - there is no way they can study and get a job.

You don't get money for community service.

    This isn't the government's problem.
Well if that's your attitude, then surely it isn't the government's problem that some people can't afford to go to college??

If the point of EMA is to help underprivaliged families then surely they can't only take one thing into consideration?

I hope they do so every working class nobhead that voted for the tories feels like an idiot for not knowing what they are like.
People like you make me angry, absolute thick.

Our country can't afford EMA and Free bus passes, how else do you think we will get rid of this deficit. I can't see them staying. Besides since when are free bus passes offered? I have never had EMA and always had to work to get my money as i was never given any by my parents. The EMA attitude is generally do nothing to get an easy £30 or so. Great way to get our young generation to fall into.

    I don't think they're scrapping it.
I received a letter recently, clearly stating that I'll be getting my EMA till I'm 19. I'm 16 atm.

I've not seen one college without a library, most colleges give you loaner textbooks for the duration of your course, pens cost 10p... transport is paid for anyways if you live so many miles away from the college. And walking is good for you anyways, and if more people did that it'd help fix another of societies problems

My college didn't give us textbooks. The ones we needed weren't in the library. Transport isn't always paid for - or is, from only a certain distance. (in my case, it was only from town - I live roughly 2 miles from town)

To be able to obtain EMA, you should do commnity service, if you can't get a job.

    Where is your logic.

Not everyone has time if they're in college full-time and possibly having to help out with their siblings.

Absolutely makes my point, so many people getting EMA are probably thick as two short planks with comments being made like that. Jealous? Of course i'm ******* jealous. Most people get EMA PLUS money from their parents. I get no EMA and no money from my parents and have had to work for my money whilst seeing people spend their money on booze and basically getting free nights out. Sickens me how they think they DESERVE the right of getting EMA. What makes you better than those who don't get it?

I doubt they'll stop EMA. If they did then they'd be making themselves very unpopular with our generation who recieves EMA and we'll all be voting next time.

As for those who say how stupid it is 'wasting' money on paying those who go to college money- I think you're talking rubbish. Atleast the governement is paying those of us who work hard for something and actually aspire to do something with ourselves.
Unlike the hundreds they pay a week on those of us who decide to be bums and have a baby young just to get a free flat and money off the government. I know people in my area who don't fancy working hard and going to college and so have a baby just to make money and have a flat with their boyfriends.

You should be complaining about that rather than the 10-30 quid hard working less well-off students get! :p:

And what free bus travel? I still spend 40 quid a month travelling to college

Since when did under 18's get free bus passes? I never got them and I lived ages away from my college.

EMA is just a joke anyway, it was a good idea but people abused it. They should replace it with free train/bus passes and vouchers for stationery/food or whatever. The taxpayer shouldn't pay for someone's shopping trip (which was what the majority of my friends who got it spent it on.)

Now thats an awsome idea, instead of £30 pound a week, give people a 10p Pen a week, and a notebook!

As for the idiot who said they'd be voting next time around, who would you vote for then??? There is no one better labour has got us deep into the ****.

Wow. Talk about stereotypes. Since when are people that recieve EMA 'thick'? Firstly, i would scratch the 'most' as no one i know that recieves ema, gets money from their parents aswell! What a beautiful sob story, don't you realise that so many other people have a job on top of ema to pay for their social life too. We 'DESERVE' it because our household income is obviously below 30k! Errm i didnt realise I'd said i was better than anyone else?

I don't agree with EMA, at least not £30 a week. I think if people are really in desperation, maybe their kid should get their textbooks for school from the government, but that's it. The people I know who get EMA could easily live without it, and use it to go out and socialise, which just pisses me off. The thing I hate is that they get 'bonuses' for coming into college, whilst other people get nothing for doing the exact same thing. My friends also got EMA when it was the summer and we had no college, which seemed like a huge waste of the taxpayer's money to me.

The worst one is ALG though, anyone over 19 can get it if you're in full time education, and it's £30 a week and not based on income - pretty pointless. I didn't apply for it out of principle.
