I'm pretty sure that the picture is the only reason the people who buy the sun actually buy it. I doubt sun readers are the intellectual type or they wouldn't be buying the magazine. I do agree it should be band but it will never happen. Pornography is a very big business.

Some girls like appearing topless in the newspaper.

Not because they're sluts, but because I imagine knowing that literally thousands of men are going to look at you and find you very attractive is quite an alluring prospect.

Same goes for when men do topless shoots. Men like topless women, women like topless men. It's not degrading if it's done of someone's own free will.
I doubt a woman wants a creepy old man which they have never met masturbating over them.

If that was the case, why appear in a national newspaper with their tits out?

They're not forced. The Sun don't trawl the nations towns and cities looking for slutty girls to kidnap, lock up and photograph. The girls apply of their own accord, probably because they want a career in the glamour modelling industry.

You are all fooled in a patriarchal society. And men.
Banning them will remove the free choice of women to be page 3 girls.
Just because they are being sexualised doesn't make it degrading.

YOUR MISSING THE POINT. its not about what these dumb models want, it is degrading of all females
Excuse me, but, how exactly is somebody else taking their top off for a newspaper degrading you? Because, of course, men can't appreciate you for your personality or intellect or value you as a human being purely because some bimbo got her baps out for a photoshoot... You say I miss the point, but you really don't have one. It's not at all degrading to all females. Men do topless photos much more openly than women, photos which are exposed in much more public places, like Hollister billboards. We don't automatically feel degraded because some guy took his top off somewhere so some guy could take a photo of him.

Why has everyone been saying this? It's hardly as if we're gonna have a quick **** on the train or on the way to work or something, which is when most people buy their paper. Its aimed at younger men.

If its aimed at younger women there'd simply be topless hunky guys everywhere and there is in magazines like Heat.

I don't see the problem, its not degrading, and the point about kids is the stupidest one ever. Why would a kid buy the Sun just for a picture of some girl smiling to the camera topless. All they have to do is take out their internet enabled iPhone they all seem to have nowadays and type 'tits' into google and they'll get alot worse. And they do do that believe me.

And last but not least, I bet you've never even read the Sun, nor are you interested in reading it. So stop whining. Next you'll hear me complaining about topless men being protrayed in Take a Break, so degrading Oh won't someone please think of the children!!

That's not really what anyone thinks about. It's the idea of being wanted, or being thought of as beautiful or 'hot' that appeals. I suppose the pros outweigh the cons.

People seem to get really overly-hysterical about this. Banning page 3 is not tantamount to denying women's liberty, ushering in an Islamist state or being a prude. It's about recognising that if a publication wishes to use sexual images to sell itself then it ought to be subject to the same restrictions as similar publications. So either the Sun removes page 3 and continues to (dis)function as a newspaper, or it is treated the same as 'Lad's Mags'.

In the sun they have page 3 topless girls and on the sun website they have girls entering the competition to be a page 3 girl, and viewers rating their pictures. I think its degrading of women and should not be allowed. Why is it in these magazines when little children could see them advertised in shops or laying aroung their house? I wont even get started on lads mags, but not newspapers! I think this should be made illegal who agrees?
Won't somebody please think of the children?

If you don't want your children to see boobies, don't leave the sun lying around the house, or better yet, don't buy it.

Lets be honest there's nothing wrong with it. anyone with internet access in 3 clicks can access material a lot more graphic. Plus men are topless in magazines and papers so why not women if were an all for equality society.

When you think about it, it is actually rather bizarre to have topless gals randomly on page 3 in a newspaper.. I wonder if they have similar things on the continent, anyone?
Bild in Germany often have some fairly nude pictures on their front cover, I don't know about a regular feature though.

I wouldn't say ban it, but what I would say is that they shouldn't sell it to children or try to put it higher up on the shelf or something. Many children who have restrictions on their home pc or something, use that and nobody stops children from buying them. But banning them? No.

If you look at the kind of people who read the Sun it's hardly surprising it has topless women in.

Maybe Dave Cam should concentrate on banning offensive material like this instead of mucking up the rest of the gov.
To be quite honest, that sounds like the kind of waste of time that drains so much government time. **** Political correctness, get me an economy that works.

I hate page 3, I think it's utter trash, but I would hate to see it stopped through legislation. It shouldn't be banned. The females should have the right to model and the men the right to indirectly pay for her occupation. It's only when people judge her to not be making the 'right' decision (presumably just because it's not what they would do) that the idea of banning it comes into play. Live and let live, and all that.
