Ah yes, my mistake. Also just realised neutron rest mass is given in formula booklet, so you'd use that to find its binding energy

Beta decay 8 times more likely implies for every 8 beta decays, one electron capture occurs.
Given there is one argon atom --> 8 beta decays occurred.
Total number of atoms = number of beta decays + number of electron caputres + number of potassium atoms = 1+8+5=14 (in actuality the real total is some constant multiple of this number i.e 14A for some A, but this constant doesn't matter when finding t)
Model as N=Noexp(-lambda*t) for N=5, No=14
Get lambda from the half life, find t.

Thanks! I didn't realise that some of the potassium atoms would actually be remaining, that's where I got confused .

Np, this is a classic dating question probably the hardest thing they can ask you in nuclear.

Are you an A2 student too? I'm using that pack of questions to practice my Nuclear quickly, I don't know if they are pre2010 questions or new ones. Nuclear actually isn't that bad in my opinion

Are those two paths the same? Why is one of the path reflected at A and then B, but the other path is only reflected at B?
