It was apparently extremely divisive but yeah, it was close. I kept abreast of the situation the whole time for LP.

About a year ago the coalition collapsed and resulted in a mongrel coalition of the minor parties, what was fairly unknown at the time was that the Tories and Labour had entered negotiations for a grand coalition. The vote failed on their end but it was much closer than either of us probably expected although from what i heard, it was extremely polarising as you'd expect.
    How??

And I can confirm that it wasn't unknown at all. We all knew about the negotiations.

As long as you don't use dupes.

Actually I know for a fact that it was known before it was even put to labour as a whole. So it's likely the Tories who leaked.

From experience, you don't need dupes to establish an effective intelligence network quite easily. Just befriending the right people.

Don't you have access to the Labour subforum because you are a moderator?

I did not realise the negotiations for a grand coalition were supposed to be secret, one of the reasons UKIP had for the coalition was to try to bait the Conservatives to join a coalition with Labour; a bad coalition would have hurt the Conservatives more.

Yes I do but I don't use it to benefit the Conservatives in any way (as Ray can confirm). I've also not tapped into my network since I joined the ST to remove any doubts that I gain information that I would not have had I not been a member of the ST.

The grand coalition was rejected by Labour by 16 votes to 7.

I still think it could work though, with the right leaders and an acceptance that not everyone will agree on everything.

You'd get 2 or 3 immediate defections to the Socialists, myself included, if we ever went into coalition with the Tories; and I suspect from the Tories to Ukip as well.

Shows just how tribal Labour are rather than pragmatic
