Can I just say that I am still in shock about that?
So am I at times, when I go to do something and realise I'm not supposed to any more.

    (Original post by Aph)
Saracen's Fez same question as above to adam, also what would be the point of the MHoC twitter feed? after the IAS twitter stalking incident I struggle to believe that anyone would actually follow it. other then that you are fairly vanilla
As a bit of fun. Given that people do follow the Labour Twitter feed and many are willing to enter into Skype conversations I don't think there would be an aversion to following a Twitter news feed.

I don't think "vanilla" is necessarily a bad thing for a Speaker anyway. The main responsibility as I see it is to make sure the House runs properly and to arbitrate any disagreements over procedure. A more "interesting" character would cause more questions over their neutrality.

There's a TSR labour Twitter feed!?

Off site comms is fine until all conversation goes off the site, because then newbies don't see it as welcoming. Or perhaps without the fights haha itd be more welcoming xD

I've ignored it for a few months now, but yes, @TSRLabour.

A news reel is hardly all conversation and I can't imagine it risking becoming more than that, it's a pretty safe promotional tool without detracting from what actually goes on here.

Nah, I more meant like Skype etc... I don't think that it'd be so bad that there was no conversation on here though!

Question time.Life_peer Props for best manifesto I think, and you've already answered what I was going to ask Airmed What exactly will you be doing alongside party leaders (or, I would hope, the people actually responsible for keeping up voting in parties where this isn't the leader's responsibility) to increase voting turnout? Do you not think 90%+ for everyone is a little ambitious? Secondly, I like the idea of opening up Ad Hoc, but what steps are you going to take to actually encourage people to write in it? I have a feeling most people won't be interested in writing newspaper articles. adam9317 You state that you will foster good debate and make closer links with the rest of D&CA. How will you go about both of these? Nigel Farage MEP Given your distaste for formal rules and constitutions your proposal to create an MHoC penal code surprises me. Do you not think that each case of rule-breaking is unique and is best dealt with by the judgement of the Speaker rather than hard-and-fast penalties? Saracen's Fez Given that there is already a link to the MHoC relatively prominently visible when you go on the UK politics subforum homepage, how would a thread there help with recruitment? Also, I like the idea of reviving the Twitter feed - what would you put there and would it be just you who would have the login details? Aph, define 'petty issues'.
I think we need clear guidelines as to what we can and can't do. Too frequently at the minute people are debating, but are maybe not saying what they truly think, incase they get punished etc- they don't know where the boundaries are, so I would like to set them up; which will allow for clearer debate. People don't like discussing Islamic terrorist eg incase of offending people, but we can set clear guidelines as to what they can't say, without getting personal, meaning they are happier to debate!Links with the rest of D+CA, basically integrating with them, having discussions, games, activities in both the MHOC and UK Pol to get members from both areas co-operating easier, letting them see we aren't all a bunch of political nerds, so they come along and see what the house is like!
    (Original post by Saracen's Fez)
A link is all well and good but all it does is take you through to another subforum with a long list of threads where you can watch experienced MHoCers have arguments. I do feel that if we had an actual thread where people could ask questions of the parties to try and choose one to join they would be more likely to join. The moderation on this thread would I hope be stricter, with pretty much zero tolerance for going off topic or using it for inter- (or for that matter intra-) party arguments. The Twitter feed would be a very basic news feed for MHoC events in the main, with what might be newspaper headlines for TSRland, as well as potentially retweeting big political stories. Toronto would obviously get the login details as well, as would TF and anybody else who is D&CA mod (adam9317??). Not sure I'd go as far as giving them to party leadership or publicly.
I don't think TSR would have an issue, as long as TSR members weren't put at harm, and no illegal sites etc were linked to; so I think it would be all right from a mod perspective!

My question to adam9317 is how can we trust you given the state of the MEU even after months and my question to Nigel Farage MEP is why is he still here after what he told us after his resignation as UKIP leader. We aren't idiots who can't remember what happened a few days ago, you know…

Let me quote from this magnificent revelation just to freshen up our memories:
The annoying thing is the hold ups by the powers above that be. I am in contact with Pickles and QC to get things moving, as without private subs/ user groups, it really isn't an easy task.
Plus the MHOC is a house already stabilised, the MEU- we are talking about something where we need to build on it, and we are working on the foundations!

If you are elected Speaker and your current MP seat is vacant, do you know if there is a person from your party wanting to become an MP in your place? Will you reinstate/keep the previous Speaker's list of Bills to come, or at least indicate in daily updates the length of the Bill and Motion queue?
Yes, we do have members within UKIP who would happily take the seat!Yes, I most certainly would keep the queue; and I would even consider giving out the full title of the bill, and also the submitter in the queue update; but I would consult with party leaders before doing that to see what their general consensus is!
    (Original post by Aph)
Life_peer with regards to the automated bill submission ect. system would that work by letting a bot use your account? because I'm not sure the CT would actually like or allow a bot to have CA powers. Also do you not think that a rolling voting review makes parties lazy when they should be tracking their own MPs? Airmed How do you propose that we keep voting percentages above 90% without ending up with MP seats in the hands of voting monkeys instead of actual people who will debate and revitalize the house? Also, as I recall we saw ray promise to have all updates out by 9 iirc and he failed to do that effectively so how will you succeed where he failed?adam9317 you say you are active in the house but over the past few months I haven't seen you around much and thought you had left at one point. also what would the closer links you talk about entail? I would think that most D&CA regulars know we are here and avoid us like the plauge because of the atmosphere of the house and because there are too make big egos. Saracen's Fez same question as above to adam, also what would be the point of the MHoC twitter feed? after the IAS twitter stalking incident I struggle to believe that anyone would actually follow it. other then that you are fairly vanilla Aph great manifesto To all the above what are your opinion of off-site coms and people talking about the other place?
You must be mistaken, I never left- and have always maintained a constant presence about here! The closer links, please see the post above where I mentioned it Its all about changing the image of the MHOC, that you don't need to be a political specialist to join the house!

If you are a dictator Speaker then don't be stunned if you are handed a MoNC.
Afaic I will be elected on tge mandate that I will fun the whole show and prevent stupidity. I will tightly enforce the rules and give little room for movement. I'll keep that up until I'm deposed.
