- horrible food
- bad manners
- loud and fight a lot
- girls dress like sluts
- think their country is the best in everything and is very advanced
- don't want to learn other languages because they think everyone should learn English
- think they are the most intelligent and educated people in the world
- only hobbies are drinking, clubbing and shopping
- the only vegetable they eat is pea
- a very strange sense of humour or no sense of humour at all
- don't want to be friends with foreigners

in my international school, the stereotype is quite repressed, polite, calm, expresses anger through sarcasm and the girls are boring looking

not to mention the boy in Mary Poppins had like 5 green teeth that probably scarred a generation of americans and implanted the british stereotype of crap english teeth but to be honest from my time in england that stereotype is pretty true

What I've heard here in Finland about Brits is based on their (drunken) behaviour on holiday, but I guess it's pretty much the pot calling the cettle black...

From the people I spoke to about this a few months ago, I got quite an interesting picture of how they perceive an average day in the life of a teenage Brit to be.....

8am - Wake up for school
8.20am - Breakfast of beans on toast *they were v specific about that*
9am - School
12pm - Off for a lunch of sandwiches from Tesco, then to the local park to eat it *also, specific*
4pm - Big Ben rings, we all go home for tea and scones *no joke*
6pm - To the pub
2am - Stumble home drunk, then to school the next day

I blame the media

lol to be fair that looks quite like my 6th form college's life

humm..Wt did I think when I first came to UK?...?
People asked extremely stupid questions when the answers were REALLY obvious,
the educational system and culture is very relaxed,
Everything was slow slOW SLOW... even in Lodon,
highly inefficient... ...
Big and long black coats, phones and blackberries everywhere.
Oh yes and occasionally very strange people with bright pink hair colour on the streets...
(Later found out that they were known as "EMOs"..or "PUNK"..?! but I really found them scary and wired...)

seriously tell that to them.
people from america and such will call scotish people scotish; irish people irish; welsh people welsh; but english people british.
hence my interpritation of the thread.
as we arent really including haggis and kilts in this thread are we?

There are the rumours that the Americans think we're all posh, old fashioned and terribly clever
Wrong.
You don't bathe, are dirty, drink too much and are promiscuous.
And this is from my personal observation of the English.

I was speaking to some Canadian on MSN (wtf) and she said she was eating an English Muffin, and I said "what the hell's an English Muffin?" and she said "it's what they eat in England" and then I said "I'm from England and I've never heard of English Muffins" and she's like "lol".
English muffins = muffins...
because not many other countries have got muffins you know..and I thin kthey were originally from England as well...?!
Its like saying Chinese Stir Fry Noodles or sth, to us chinese, its just stir fry noodles.

I have my various bustles in dusty or vernicular pink and my underclothes all from Shipleys, London you know! And Mr Smythe, my husband, bought an awfully handsome hat yesterday from Harrods of London! Oh, what a bright and gay time we had!

sorry you feel that way Raddoun, I am sure if you had the pleasure of meeting some of us your viewpoint would almost certainly change. However, like all countries we have a lower class, that is the CHAV.
