# Maths year 11 watch

Nope. If I buy 2 boxes of 10 pencils, and 1 box of 12 pencils, will I really have only 3 pencils in total???

First one is fine, but the second one doesn't follow the pattern because

Better start off by saying and c will be your 3rd box.

Then say where b is your second box.

And finally the last box would satisfy where a is your first box.
I don't get the pencil one..

It could be p10+r12

You need to understand why rather than guess it and leave it as it is.

I did this

Yes that's correct, you can check it yourself by checking if it follows the required pattern.

Yeah I did it's a pattern with adding 3 then 4,5..

I have this one I didn't understand either.

It's the same thing, only algebraic. So follow on the pattern.

Like this

Or wait it could be a+b

Ab means multiplying

Yeah so which one is it? The one where you add or the one where you multiply?

Simplified is AB

but you just said that AB is multiplying; how did you go from adding 2 things to multiplying them...?

Oh okay I get it

So a+b =C

Yeah but you don't need to introduce new variables. Keep it all in terms of a and b which is where simplified forms come from in boxes 4 and 5

Um

In box 4 ...

A÷b :/ idk

The third box is a+b

The fourth box is (a+b)+(b)=a+2b

so what's the fifth box??

Do you know how to simplify algebraic addition? Like what is a+b+b+c+c+c in its most simple form?? If not, then please revisit this.

That's right, now apply the same idea to the question when it comes to simplifying. Literally nothing more difficult than adding two boxes together.
