yeah i got an "application withdraw" email too - I think mine was for the genomics interview reserve place I still had.

I think its just their way of removing the other specialism you applied for.

    congrats on your offer
Great thank you!! Congrats on yours too - what was it for?

Previous postings in this thread seem to indicate that others also got this and thought that it was likely to be from the other specialism that they applied for. Bit confusing (and potentially worrying) though I think.
    Thanks!!

Did anybody get an email saying 'Application Withdrawn' when they accepted followed by a 'Offer Accepted' email immediately after? I presume it might be because I applied for Clinical Immunology and got unsuccessful from the application process in the first place but if anyone else could shed some light?
What discpline did you apply for?

Does anyone know how to opt out of upgrading (received a better place than I expected that I am happy with) or to edit our preferences after accepting with upgrades?

Under the my applications tab, click on view application summary and then upgrade preferences; deselecting everything should stop upgrades

I was very fortunate to be offered 2 positions this year, I have declined Bioinformatics (Genomics) so hopefully some lucky person will be hearing soon about that if you were reserve. I hope this helps someone

So is everyone who wasn't given an offer after the interview put on the reserve list? Or is the reserve list smaller. It seems like everyone who was unsuccessful on here is on the reserve list.

Also for fellow reserve/unsuccessful-ers, what are your plans now? Anyone know of any similar alternatives or other good opportunities/genetic or healthcare based grad schemes? Or is it just a case of getting more experience and trying again next year.

Bit of a cheeky question, but did anyone get a genomic counselling offer that they're thinking of turning down?

I am thinking of commuting an hour/ hour and a half by train or car to my location at first to see if I can handle it. However, when I went on an open day some of the current STPs said that during their first year during their rotations they had to travel away from their location to other hospitals. This example was from Birmingham to Derby (1 hour). So that is something to consider when thinking of commuting.

I see, so for rotations I can choose a host in London or somewhere near?
I am very confused, as I don't want to reject the offer because of the distance and I am not able to move to Nottingham (family stuff) !! dilemma!! will cost me £10k/year just to commute from King's Cross to Nottingham!

It says that the upgrade deadline is the 20th of May, does anyone know if that means that is the cut off date for us being offered an upgrade if someone else in an area that I have ranked higher drops out, or is it just the deadline for opting in/out of upgrades? Thanks

Oh no that is a bit of a dilemma
From what I recall, with this example there was no choice with the rotation and its location. So I doubt that you would be able to have rotations in London, they are more likely to be in areas surrounding Nottingham. Again, this was just one STP'er who was talking about his experience within the role so I am not 100% sure about what happens.
Maybe email the helpline who may be able to offer better advice? And there is the potential for upgrades if London was preferred, so you may want to wait until the upgrade deadline before making a decision.

Hey, hope you don't mind me offering some advice. My brother in law used to commute from Bedford to London and found it really exhausting, as it took quite a long time when factoring in the journey and travel to stations at both ends. They then moved to Leicestershire and he had to go to just two days a week with the rest working from home as he just found he couldn't feasibly do it. Commuting to the Midlands in my opinion would put an awful strain on what is already apparently a position that works you really hard. Not to mention the costs, which would be about half of your take home pay!! I realise you'll have thought everything through but I would think moving would be a much better option, even if you can only move half way or something. Sorry realise this isn't really actually that helpful, but I just know that I don't think I could do it, maybe short term but this has to be for 3 years. I take it you've opted in for upgrades? Something may very well come up there, so fingers crossed, very best of luck either way

For our trainees, the only reason to go to another site is if they have expertise or equipment we don't have at our hospital. Usually only for a day or two and usually not very far.
