Atleast next year we'll both have a good idea for the types of questions to be prepared for. Im sure they mix them round and everything but I could not picture for the life of me what to expect, I was revising for different genetic screening tests and the cost to the NHS haha! Obviously wasn't needed!(Original post by stoopatroopa)
Sorry to hear this and I hope that you are successful next year (or get a later offer this year).
If it's any consolation, I was also applying for this specialism and I received an outright unsuccessful at interview message (at 5pm on the dot on Friday as well when I thought I'd survived the unsuccessfuls going out on that day). I didn't think the interview had gone extremely badly, which is kind of a shame because I am not sure where I could improve if I applied again, although I also found myself spaced out by the end (can't actually remember any of the questions from the last station. Perhaps I just sat there and stared into space!).
Are you thinking of paying for the feedback? I think I will.
What time did you go for the interview if you don't mind me asking? I was at 2:30.

I think I might have been at 2:30 as well (have managed to forget!). Not sure I'm ready to log back into Oriel to check (is it still there?). The 'unsuccessful' message makes me feel bad.
I don't know if I'll apply again. I'll probably ask for the feedback though as I would like to know the areas that I could improve on in general. I am considering that as I was considered pretty bad outright (not even making it to reserve) that I might not be well-suited to counselling in this field. Maybe I can contribute better somewhere else :-). -

I was (very luckily!!) offered my first choice for Genomic Counselling at North West London Healthcare trust. I'd be more than happy to chat to anyone who is reapplying next year to give any advice that I can! It's taken me a few years to get this after first applying to the Genetic Counselling Masters in 2013 so don't be too disheartened...sometimes it takes a while!
On a separate note - does anyone know if there is any scope for training part time within the STP? I currently work part time as I have a 1 year old. In the offer acceptance email it says you can contact your local training board to request less than full time work. Anyone know anything? -

I'm afraid I've been told that part time work is not generally allowed on the STP, although having said that it is definitely worth seeing if your trust can accommodate your needs. They might be able to be flexible. You also may be able to take some of your study days at home (again depending on trust), but I appreciate how you might not get that much work done with a young one at home as well. -

Do they confirm your references before they're contacted? I need to change the details for one of mine (if I get an offer).
Posted from TSR Mobile
It's a shame they take so long to do the reference checks etc - 1 because I'd feel happy having it in writing as definitely OK, and 2 because it would be good to officially hand in my notice sooner rather than later so that my employer could work on replacing me asap. I will speak to my bosses this week but it's a shame I can't give them official confirmation until months away... -

Does anyone know how to opt out of upgrading (received a better place than I expected that I am happy with) or to edit our preferences after accepting with upgrades? -

Cazzzzo: You have to accept the offer, then on the next page it comes up as a tick-box option, so you just need to untick that. Everyone is opted in as a default until that point.

Under the my applications tab, click on view application summary and then upgrade preferences; deselecting everything should stop upgrades -

Click to either accept or hold first, then it's on the next page from there

Hi all, I'm fully aware that this is really unlikely, but I just wondered if any genomics people were planning on not accepting or had accepted a different specialism? I know it's a really long shot, just trying to work out if there is any need whatsoever to keep hopes up until I find out the reserve rankings!!!
Out of interest anyone (on genomics) holding as opposed to outright accepting??
Good luck to anyone hoping to hear today!!
