First of all I would be shocked as she is engaged.
    Also that she's writing a diary :/
Also that she refers to all children as "the spawn of the devil" and dislikes them.

Then I would get over it. If she wouldn't act on it, then who am I to judge.

Here's the situation: Through a stroke of luck or ingenious snooping, you've stumbled upon your best friend's diary.

In the diary, they reveal that they are in fact sexually attracted to children. They've had these lustful feelings towards young children for a while now, and find them very difficult to deal with. Your friend states adamantly and repeatedly that they would never dream of abusing a child- the thought completlely repulses them, and they would never do such an awful thing. They have no idea how to cope with this unwanted sexuality they are "cursed with" as they put it. They often feel very scared and have recurring nightmares about people finding out they're a paedophile and hunting them down. Your friend expresses feelings that they are an "abomination" and repeatedly shows suicidal intents.

Assume everything that has been written in the diary by this friend is true. What do you do? How would you react, what actions would you take (i.e. would you tell your friend you'd found out) etc? All this and more in this thread.
You arent born a paedophile, there isnt a gene that controlls your degree of paedophillia, you learn to become one. Simply put, if you are a paedophile, it is purely because you havnt thought things through.

In the past homosexuals were sent to mental assylums for the rest of their lives. In the past women frequently gave birth much younger and had sex with older men. Emotions aside pedophilia is pretty much a socially constructed evil.

As long as this wasn't acted upon, I would do nothing. Try to act as normal as possible and if the situation arose, probably talk to them about it. Depends on the person.

Obviously I would try and make him feel better and tell him that his urges are as normal as those of homosexuals and heterosexuals. (The language you describe, and the situation, are identical to that of oppressed homosexuals.) However, I would seek assurances that he would, like Humbert Humbert, seek girls who evoked the mannerisms of young children as a substitute, rather than actually putting his penis inside a prepubescent orifice.

I would hope he himself would try to keep himself away from children as much as he could, in an effort to sublime it into a secondary sexual drive. Aversion therapy would be an easy consideration.

    Basically, think homosexuality before 1960.

Just because the friend wouldn't personally abuse a child, doesn't mean they wouldn't look at images/videos on the internet.

Not taking any action would (in theory) be saying that just because he's watched a clip of a kid being raped instead of actually doing it himself, he's not a paedophile.

It does. Beat him, rape him, then report him.

That's just like saying that because he watched hardcore sadistic (Saw?) violence instead of doing it himself, he's not a dangerous psycho.

One day the feelings and urges will take over your friend's actions and a child could suffer for it...however now that you know maybe you should do something about what you know and try to help you friend and possible future victims...

Watching Saw isn't illegal, child porn is.

But, does doing that illegal thing means that he would do the real thing on children? It means he has broken the law not that he would do that on children. The point was the relationship being attraction and action.
