I hate page 3, I think it's utter trash, but I would hate to see it stopped through legislation. It shouldn't be banned. The females should have the right to model and the men the right to indirectly pay for her occupation. It's only when people judge her to not be making the 'right' decision (presumably just because it's not what they would do) that the idea of banning it comes into play. Live and let live, and all that.
The question isn't necessarily 'do women have the right to model and be paid for it?'. It could be about whether such modelling ought to be allowed in a widely-circulated national newspaper.

I'm pretty sure that the picture is the only reason the people who buy the sun actually buy it. I doubt sun readers are the intellectual type or they wouldn't be buying the magazine. I do agree it should be band but it will never happen. Pornography is a very big business.
Lul wat?

One picture is the reason everyone buys a newspaper.. ye.. right..

Ignore the fact i can see more naked girls doing better stuff for free in 5 seconds on my phone.. or on my laptop or desktop or can just look at a magazine on top shelf kind of thing. No doubt i can see that page 3 girl , online on a google search and see much more of her.

BTW
Page 3 isn't the 'pornography business'
Its the 'glamour model' business.
There is a difference, learn it and live with it.

Ban FHM etc too then i guess?
Bad a multitude of magazines that show much more than page 3.

Oh and btw to you, the internet is much more accessible than buying a newspaper is.

Simone de Beauvoir is my idol, but even I don't think it should be banned. it literally makes no sense.
the rights to free expression, speech, conscience and thought are enshrined, you want to ban a 'newspaper' because you dont agree with its content....
what next? back to censoring books with a 'questionable' content...or why not go all out and burn them?!

I don't buy the Sun and I would never do page 3, but I respect the right of anyone else to chose for themselves.

Utterly ridiculous argument, it's your kind who degrade women; giving creedance to the view that all Feminists are whackos.

the women who participate in these shoots want to do it for themselves which is the main point of it all, sure i can understand that some women dont like seeing it but they tend to be the prudish type of people that dislike women at the beach who wear bikinis.

i say if you're comfortable with your body and want to show it off then its all down to you, and that goes for both genders. sure it shouldnt be put in kids faces but kids dont really read newspapers, and if they do then something is going wrong with their parents "hey Timmy come and have a look at this!"

i dont see why its such a big problem with some people, if you dont like it then dont go looking for it.

I think they're grown women who can choose how to use their bodies...I'd rather them be paid by mainstream media if such a thing has to happen than them go underground, which would inevitably happen if publications couldn't freely publish such material.

Nope.... Newspapers also have columns dedicated to 'women's' material and I often see half naked men jump up out of newspapers, it may not be page 3, but it's still there. I don't think it's right to block one set of 'revealing' images but still manage to include others.

No, because there's a difference between having a magazine devoted to such things and having them displayed in a national newspaper. The accessibility is not the point; it's the association.

Apologies, I misunderstood.

I have no strong feelings about the latter as I don't have the information about how this style of 'glamour modelling' affects children's development. If adults exclusively saw it I could see no problem presuming it's all consensual, but I still don't know how this affects gender equality, etc. I'm aware the issue exists in reverse though, so I shouldn't imagine this to be a large problem.

The magazines are national too, by the way, or are you confused as to what national means? As in.. the magazines will be sold in all the same places as The Sun . Does it matter now?

Times are changing, sex sells, some women love to model and know guys like looking at them.. who are you or anyone else.. who aren't in that industry.. to say what is right or wrong for them?

A national newspaper is different to a national magazine. As I said, it's about the association it has. Page 3's presence in a national newspaper normalises (and makes prominant) the view that objectifying women is an acceptable part of everyday life. It being in a separate publication is very different.

I'd support some kind of age restriction on buying daily magazines like the Sun or the Star (lets face it, they're not newspapers). But I don't think it's fair to ban women from posing topless in magazines. If they want to, why shouldn't they be allowed to? Isn't it up to them if they find it degrading and not some other woman?

It being in a different publication is not different, it is the exact same topic, the same subject about the same talking point. It is the fact it is so 'widely viewed' that botheres you.

Which just shows how insecure you are.

Whatever the hell your 'standing for', women's right or whatever.. you would be doing it for everythinhg.. every small nude picture in the back of a games magazine, every FHM magazine.. every single thing. Yet you seem to just pick page 3 girls .. why? Because your a jealous, insecure and unintelligent girl who lacks the common sense to come to terms with changes in life.. and lacks the common sense to see things from other people's point of view.

Kids can watch porn so easy these days it is nothing to see a page 3 girl. The first few 'wonder' years i remember discovering all this stuff, and we had watched full on sex and open legged pictures, page 3 was nothing. There is no reason to try and say these pictures some how harm children who view it, that is such a ridiculous and outdated view. Get with the times.

ITS DISGUSTING, WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU DEGRADE WOMEN LIKE THAT- WE WOMEN HAVE SUFFERED MANY YEARS OF THIS BULL**** AND YET THE MEDIA IS STILL SUPOORTING THIS ****, I WONDER WHAT THESE STUPID MEN WHO FIND THIS NORMAL "sex, porn and topless girls are natural" WHAT WOULD THEY DO IF THEIR MOTHER, SISTER OR EVEN GRANDMA WAS TOPLESS OR HAD SEX WITH ANY RANDOM GUY , OR WAS IN THE NEWSPAPER TOPLESS?
You should move to Saudi Arabia you'd be much happier there.

This is what their media has to do to Western images over there.

Oh and don't go to continental Europe. WOMEN WALK DOWN THE BEACH TOPLESS AND BREASTFEED OH MY GOD ITS DEGRADING COVER YOUR CHILDRENS EYES!!!!! POOR LITTLE DARLINGS WILL BE TRAUMATISED FOR LIFE. Those poor women on the beach getting a tan how dare society degrade them like that.

Its not like its their choice or anything.

"A newspaper is a regularly scheduled publication containing news, information, and advertising,

This is what The Sun is right? a newspaper?
Thus.. they are doing a very very good job at being one right? great profits etc?

Where does it say a newspaper has to hold specific information ? It doesn't , anywhere.
