Most young "leftists" are actually just anti-authority and trying to be rebellious. Saying that, my politics teacher said the more educated you become, the more left-wing you generally become. Not sure how truthful this is.

No, they're not.

They have different political views to you, that doesn't make them stupid.

I just saw someone who describes themselves as a Libertarian Socialist so I'm gonna go with yes.

There are many different types of "leftist" and I have varying levels of respect for each one. When it comes to the lentil loving champagne socialist guardianistas and their new-age outlooks on health and wellbeing then whilst they could well be intelligent they are also absolutely bat**** insane and probably won't grow out of it.

If they're the more rebellious anarcho-communist sort then they will probably grow out of it when they realise that stuff simply isn't that simple.

If they're centre left then they're probably quite sensible and normal.

Judging by this forum, and the 'ones' I encountered at uni.

Yes, yes, and yes.

Most young lefty liberals simply dont have a clue about reality, and what real life is.

They live in a bubble.

Hence the reason they vote Lib Dem.

So you don't actually know what either terms mean?

Minimal state

No private ownership of "the means of production"

How are those two things reconcilable? Any state that confiscates the machine of someone who invented it is hardly minimal.

I would say that they have a poor grasp of economics and international politics. That doesn't mean they are stupid, though. You could be an excellent mathematician, scientist or even philosopher and have loony political views (look at Heidegger for instance) just because you don't know much about politics.

I was a socialist until I started reading about economics. Most people I know who are socialists do not know much about economics.
