Wigan have too much to do imo.. 5 point gap with a game in hand and a goal difference which isn't any better than those who could otherwise go down.

If Wigan didn't have the FA cup too, I'd be more optimistic. I don't think they can beat Arsenal, which means 5 points from 3 games - might be possible if they beat Villa on the last day but I think Villa will be a point or two out of reach by then.

If they were playing Arsenal any other time i'd fancy them to get a result - they did win there last season (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17655569). However 3 days after a cup final? No chance, that game will take so much out of them especially if they lose.

I don't think Wigan will be seen in the top division again if they go down.

I do think their games just before and just after the FA cup final will suffer. You're probably right about not coming back up any time soon. Martinez will probably leave, as will their big names and they don't have big pockets to come back up again quickly like say QPR.

However, the parachute payments are huge now so many they can come up via the play-offs?

If Villa win and Wigan lose, then yes you would say Villa are safe. If Wigan win any result would leave everything still to play for.

    Fixtures

    Norwich
    WBA + Man city

    Wigan
    Swansea + arsenal + villa

    Sunderland
    Stoke+ Southampton + Tottenham

    Newcastle
    QPR - Arsenal.

    currently:
    Norwich 38
    newcastle 38
    Sunderland 37
    Wigan 35

The way I see it.. it will end:

    Newcastle - 41
    Sunderland - 40
    Norwich - 39
    Wigan - 39

And norwich and wigan have the same goal difference.. currently..

Hmm - certianly has been kept interesting by todays results! all of those teams have some hard fixtures.. so.. who knows!

You reckon the teams on 40 points are safe? For example, Villa have Chelsea and Wigan. Hard to see them getting a result against Chelsea and if Wigan win their game in hand, as well as another, then it could hang on the final day game.

Wigan clearly need a win somewhere in there or its sorted regardless. Sunderland Stoke, Newcastle QPR are basically the fixture that matter. I guess if Wigan can get a win then a goal difference race between them and Norwich could be on.

Wigan clearly favourites to go down, points on the board are always better than games in hand, especially at the bottom of the table.

I think it's between Newcastle and Norwich and all will be decided next week because neither will be getting any points on the final day.

    Wigan Vs Villa.

Got to be the biggest game in Villa's recent history!

Chelsea have their final though; fingers crossed they'll rest players

Hopefully, although Rafa has said that he'd rather get 4th than win the Europa League. I'd rather win the Europa League to be honest, but there you go...
