Not entirely sure but I believe they work as a catalyst
No, they remove any substances that could have reacted so that a false positive is not given. If you didn't add the nitric acid, you may get a precipitate whether or not a valid was present.

    Hi everyone

Does anyone have any predictions for the 6 mark questions for these exams? Do you feel prepared?
I think electrolysis may be the 6 marker

I feel like I know pretty much most things to a decent standard except for salt methods and electrolysis. This is seriously gonna hurt my grade =( Gonna try learn electrolysis when I wake up early tomorrow.

Can someone please explain titration calculations & calorimetry?
No easy way to describe Titration calculations. Google it or use MyGcseScience.
Same with calorimetry. It's a multi-step method that's too large to type out. Get a brief summary over the internet.

I'm freaking out too! B2 was not so good, I really hope they ask about chromatography methods, giant covalent structures, polymers and isotopes... actually everything apart from making salts. Highly unlikely methinks.

I thought so too! That 6 mark question was quite hard though! What did you get for the proving it was right with a scientific experiment and what where you're reasons? x
