Haha - when my browser stops glitching out on the unanswered thread screen I'll be on a roll - managed (much to Motorbiker's annoyance) break the record for numbers of welcomes in one day...

Ironically, I got my first two badges for my post in this thread :awesome:

Will there be an option to choose for it to not be displayed on our profile/postbit please? It seems only logical if there is such an option for the rep system.

Cheers

Some others have expressed want for this as well, so hopefully!

Hey scavi2008,

Once they've been awarded they remain on your profile and you start working towards the next level

Glad you like it - have you got any suggestions for new badges?
I wrote a long analytical text about the system but it all disappeared whilst trying to post it, so Ill just post my suggesitons but overall I think its a good idea. UCAS and course specific advice is just as helpful as subject advice.

Suggestions:

Online time badge - (eg duration of time spent online)
TSR Vetran - (eg been a member of TSR for 1 mont 1 year 3 years etc)

The idea is that people will be more active. The truth is that a minority of forum addicts who this isn't aimed at anyway, people with self-esteem issues, will aim to get all the badges by postwhoring and spamming the forum until they reach the numbers required. Then they can go 'yay my life isn't a complete failure', then chase some more Achievements on their video games, craving more recognition and pats on the back that don't exist.

The end result is even more useless 'lol I agree' posts and, worse, posts in question threads in study and health forums where people who don't know the answer try to answer anyway so they can up their post and rep count.
You seem to have faith in humanity.

It's true, it's known as a Skinner Box. Look at my post count; I used to be one of them.

Sounds good, I kind of like it. Its a pretty good idea for new members on TSR.

But what the badge system means for members who are longer on TSR and have a (pretty) high reputation power? does the badge has any effects on members with reputation power? I didn't have understand everything of the explanation.

It doesnt matter how much rep you are able to give or have, for the badges where you need rep - you just need someone to rep it...

I guess I get it. The bagde/shield is quasi an honor award in a certain category. If this is intended for an award, I suggest to name this system the badge system.

I kind of agree.
I understand the whole 'rep' idea, in which people can receive recognition-I like that. However, the idea of 'badges' is odd. its not a gaming website, its not call of duty where I want to rank up. Meh.
