Yes. Unless it has an entry in /etc/fstab, you need to tell it where you want it mounted. You also need to tell it the partition that it should mount (i.e. partition 1).

    So,

    mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/mp3

How do I know what it should be?

    [email protected]:~$ sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/mp3
mount: mount point /mnt/mp3 does not exist

If it mounts automatically when you plug it in:

Plug it in then: run mount without any arguments and it will list what is mounted and where.

You need to mount it in a folder that exists.

    Code:
    mkdir /mnt/mp3
or run the mount command, specifying the folder of your choice.

    [email protected]:~$ sudo mkdir /mnt/mp3
    [sudo] password for juno:
    [email protected]:~$ sudo umount /dev/sdb1
    [email protected]:~$ sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/mp3

I'm sure that's exactly what I tried to do yesterday, but today it worked and yesterday it wouldn't!

Someone tell me I'm being paranoid!

A lot of little things are going wrong with my computer. Like, sometimes programmes won't open for no reason and I have to restart. And earlier, Firefox kept crashing. Loads of little crazy things happen, but I've forgotten them all now.

Anyway, if this was Windows I'd be sure I had a virus. And even though it's Linux, I'm still not sure...

Did you not read what happened when I tried Xandros?!

    I like Ubuntu

    But I like Xubuntu too.

See, that's TWO different ones I've tried!

I cannot get ATI ddrivers to work on Linux, at all - I've tried following instructions from the ATI Wiki page, and it fails at the first step of removing "fglrx" because it doesn't seem to exist!

    Therefore, Linux is rubbish lol

Well, why do you need to remove something if it doesn't exist?
