I've just applied to accommodation. Crown single, double, vine catered.

All I want is an on campus room - going to have to pray to the random selection gods for the next 7months or so!
Wait so accommodation is randomly selected??

It says they give priority to unconditional firm, then conditional and then insurance choice - but I hear campus is massively oversubscribed so a lot of people end up on the off campus (which I don't want) but there's only do much you can do to maximise your chances!

Cool, I have an unconditional and I've (obviously) firmed it for next academic year. Last month I picked, vine then crown court then crown court double. Are the chances high of me getting my first choices for accommodation?

Hi,

I'm a second year student and I'd really recommend putting Prospect Point or Opal Court if you want to be on campus. They're not UoL owned so less people seem to apply for them and they're much cheaper than Vine Court or Crown Court.
I was in Prospect Point in first year and it was great for the most part. They split the halls into John Moores and Uni of so you're only in flats and blocks with people of your own university. It's right next to the university (by the Royal Liverpool Hospital) and also 2mins or less from a Lidl, tesco, 3 different pizza places, greggs, subway, starbucks, post office etc.
It was one of the options you could pick when going through Uni of accommodation procedure when I picked accommodation

If you have an unconditional offer then the chances are very high of you getting your first choice of accommodation. I had an unconditional and got my first choice.
The computer system messed up when we all got our accommodation through though so at first we were all given accommodation that we hated and wasn't any of our choices. If you get accommodation that isn't one of your choices then ring them up and definitely don't immediately accept it (even though it says do) because it could be a system error like it was for us and it's more difficult for you to change once you've accepted.

I knew a girl who was put in Greenbank and went there but she hated it so went to the accommodation office and asked to move and they sent her to Prospect Point mid-way through first semester. So if you do end up in accommodation you don't like then don't panic because you're not necessarily stuck there.

accommodation was not randomly selected when I applied. Most people got either their first or second choice. A lot of people I knew had unconditional offers though in which case they are priority for their first choice.

I didn't know many people who ended up off campus when they didn't want to be and now that another set of on campus halls has been created it seems really unlikely that that would happen.

Hi guys, I have a few questions.. firstly, would any of the halls be much quieter than others? I tend to really enjoy my social life (work hard play hard etc etc)..
Secondly, I looked on the website and the prices were pretty steep, (compared to what Im used to in Belfast) but ive been told its usually between 90-135 a month? could someone please point me towards where I could find the lower priced accommodation?

If you stay with the uni it is going to be expensive and it is unavoidable I'm paying 130 a week for Carnatic including meals which is probably as good a deal as you're going to get. You can try and go private instead but the prices won't be that different. Going to private houses is so so much cheaper but not really an option in first year as it's nigh impossible to find flat mates.

PS I'm from NI I know it's painful :P but think how much more it would be in the south or in London

EDIT: PPS Carnatic is good socially don't worry about that

I live in Carnatic so you'll have to ask anyone at vine/crown.

Depends on where you stay. In crown, if you get a single/double bedroom, you'll have roommates to party with. You'll also have a common kitchen/diner to socialise in. If you get a studio however, you won't have a common area to socialise with your flatmates and this makes all the difference. If you get lucky with studios, you'll have extroverted flatmates but if they're anything like mine, you'll be lucky to see them in a week.
Overall, social life is not bad. Students in crown party a lot, especially in some blocks. Don't know about vine but I reckon it's similar situation to crown.

I have got a conditional offer to study Maths and am going to make it my firm choice. I have been looking at accommodation and it says when it comes to accepting your accommodation offer you have to pay:

"...pay a £150 non-returnable booking fee as part of your room offer acceptance. "

This will be at around results day, so I will have a Student Bank Account, however no finance. Do you think I would be allowed to use my parents card to pay for it (of course with their consent)?

Does anyone know if the accommodation is already open and if it's first come first served as I haven't received an offer yet but don't want to be at a huge disadvantage if I do come here!

Does anyone know when we're gonna receive our accommodation offers? I picked crown place as my first choice.
If you have an unconditional offer it could be any time soon, if not and it is conditional you will have to wait until after results day.
