I got 43 at the interview and 52 in the shortlisting process and was ranked 29th.
Ah so close! this has definitely given me more drive to stop feeling sorry for myself and apply next year. Did you manage to get a location you wanted?

I'm so confused by the scoring!

I got much higher shortlisting scores last year and didn't get an interview for cardiac. I also thought my Vascular interview had gone much better as it was my second interview, but it was MUCH worse. Maybe my confidence in the second interview came across as arrogant or something?

    Last year:
Cardiac - shortlist score 52 - Shortlist unsuccessful
    Vascular - Shortlist Score 50 - Interview Score 34 - Offers Rank 20

    This Year:
    Cardiac - shortlist score 46 - Interview Score 46 - Offers Rank 6
    Vascular - Shortlist Score 43 - Interview Score 35 - Offers Rank 23

49!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I mean there is literally no way I could get that score. I honestly don't see how anyone could without having all the questions beforehand (I'm honestly not saying that you did I just know that is the only way I could ever come close to that).I'll probably put an application in again next year unless I find something better in the mean time (unlikely, my life is definitely heading down the sh**ter). But if I do about the same again I'll probably give up, I think some people are just MUCH better at answering interview questions than me.
This year I bought a book called 'Medical School Interviews' by Olivier Picard and found it really helpful. The questions and model answers are great for preparing for the leadership and values stations. I Also bought a medical ethics book to prepare for values and 'The ECG made Easy' to prepare for the specialism station.

I'm in-service (so I'm already based in Cambridge), so I guess will be doing rotations at Addenbrooke's! Where are you moving from?
    (Original post by Eott)
    Yep, I am for Cardiac
Awesome!! I'm not actually at Cambridge University, I'm doing Cardiac at Papworth, but as it's a specialist Cardiothoracic centre, there are no other trainees from other specialisms there so thought i'd try and find people at other Cambridge sites. I think i'll spend 50% of my time at Addenbrookes, it would be nice to know some other people starting the STP in the area!

Seems like the competition for Resp/Sleep wasn't quite as high as other specialisms. I got 48 - Shortlist, 44 - Interview, 4 - Interview Rank.

Might be unlikely as there's only four positions, but anyone accepted offers for Clinical Immunology?
Did you apply for Immunology? I'm on reserves for it, but ranked 11th.

    Shortlist 50, Interview 39.

I think you might mean me - I was ranked 52nd (and got a position) but got an interview score of 39, not 35 you can't really compare last year's scores with this year though; different questions = different scores. Don't give up hope if you're on the reserve list, I know several people who got in that way.
Hi Foxchops, I was indeed referring to you, sorry about downgrading your score my bad .. Well I thought the interview had gone ok but seeing my score and rank I am a bit disappointed.. Thought I would at least be up on the reserve list.

also to give some people who want to reapply again next year a bit of an idea:

for biochem i scored 57 shortlist, 49 on interview and rank 1. (and i felt like the interview didn't go anywhere near that good! so i guess how you feel about it on the day doesn't mean much!)
    (Original post by Bagsworth)
No way! You just beat me! I got 48 and second place for biochemistry. Well done!

My god, you guys did incredibly well for Biochemistry!! I didn't do very well in the interview, scored 33! What was the reserves score/ min offer score for Biochemistry this year?

I'm here already - my house is close to Addenbrooke's and my lab is towards Papworth so I'm sure we'll cross paths! If you need any advice on where to live I'll be happy to help

My scores were as follows if this helps anyone:

    Genomics: Shortlist = 51 Interview = 47 Rank = 2

    Bioinformatics (Genomics): Shortlist = 45 Interview = 42 Rank = 4

I was originally shortlist reserve for Bioinformatics and only found out I was getting an interview a couple of days beforehand (so someone must have declined).

Are there any other Genomics Newcastle people on here? Trying to find my new STP colleagues

This is really weird, my shortlist score for this year was 50, which is exactly the same as I got last year, but they didn't give me an interview or even interview reserve last year! Maybe everyone else just did better last year!
Really strange - exactly the same happened to me! Got 50 for cardiac shortlisting last year but didn't even make it onto the interview reserve list! This year I got 50 too but got an interview! 44/50 for interview and ranked 10th - surprised I actually got my first choice.

Just want to say to those who haven't made it this year - this was my fourth year of applying, thought I'd never give up as there's nothing else I want to do in life hah but it's such a tough and exhausting process that I didn't think I could do it again next year, very relived to have a place finally, but just don't give up! If you want something so much and try hard enough it will happen eventually

No worries! Well you still never know, and definitely get your feedback, it costs a tenner but it's worth it as it'll give you an idea what areas you need to work on if it doesn't work out this year. Good luck!

Guys I emailed them to confirm how to get feedback and we don't need to pay for it this year and can do it over email. Got this reponse:

"If you would like feedback you will need to put your request formally in writing to:[email protected]There is no longer a fee for this."

Hey out of curiosity, did you submit pretty much the same application every year? I'll probably apply next year and was just wondering if it is likely I'll be able to just re submit more or less what I already have??

What have you been doing in the mean time over the last 4 years??

I submitted almost the same application this year as last year, I just made what I thought were a few improvements but I got lower shortlisting scores, but weirdly more interviews!

    Last year:
Cardiac - shortlist score 52 - Shortlist unsuccessful
    Vascular - Shortlist Score 50 - Interview Score 34 - Offers Rank 20

I'm in-service and already based in Cambridge too I'm guessing there will be a few of us from different specialisms doing rotations in Addenbrooke's!
