Sunbeds/Freckles/Lotions

Ok, i occasionally use a sun bed for a short amount of time. But when I use the accelerator lotions you can get which bring the melolin to the surface of your skin quicker, my freckles seem to disappear? Now this is confusing seeing as freckles are supposed to like the sun...? Anyone else experienced this?

Please do not post a reply to slate me for usnig sunbeds, I know and understand the asscociated risks, but I rarely use sun cream outside and have weathered skin.

Freckles and not wearing sunscreen.... freckles are just groups of melolin closer to the surface. You can't get cancer from freckles, you get it from moles and I have had my very few moles checked out.

Everything is good for you in moderation and nowadays everything is carcinogeous and we are all going to die anyway, enjoy life while you are young and can.

You can't get cancer from freckles, but freckly people are more likely to develop skin cancer.

Your freckles probably go away because the skin around them becomes darker and mingles with the colour of the freckles. Basically, when you've been in the sun a bit your freckles attract more UV and go darker, but after a while it starts to even up.

You're still a muppet for using sunbeds though.

thank you, stole the words from my mouth!

The accelerator creams are called tinglers, they make your skin feel like it's burning and turn it red, hence hiding the freckles.

I love sunbeds. But I overdid it with two 12 minutes in two days on 270 watt booster beds that had just been retubed and now I can't move.

Btw...if you're freckley you shouldn't go on sunbeds. A tan might be nice but cancer isn't. I only go on the beds because it's such a cult fashion thing here and everyone does it and it's well addictive. At uni I don't go on them. Remember 30 sessions a year maximum.

So, because it's a cult fashion thing you can't get cancer from it...?

This section includes information on who we recommend should never use a sunbed, which includes people who;

are under 16,

have fair or freckly skin,

burn easily,

have a lot of moles,

have had skin cancer in the past,

have a family history of skin cancer,

are using medication that increases your sensitivity to UVR.

I don't use sun screen either. I disipline myself to come out of the sun after so long and I don't go in it at all at mid day ect. And I don't get burnt. To little sun and too much of it can be just as damaging. As the person above said, everything in moderation.

too little sun can cause vitamin d deficiency, granted, but that is really not a big risk in this country, unless you honestly do never go out or cover up completely when you do. too much sun is very very dangerous - sun stroke at one end and cancer at the other.

you really should wear sun screen!

I had a best friend like that. In the summer she had to have sun cream on her constantly.

hey she aint a muppet 4 using sunbeds if its her decision and she isnt doin harm to you or people around her....just herself..... i myself have to use sunbeds...but i use mine because of a skin condition meaning that the little powered sunbeds that they use in salons arent as dangerous as the full blown UVB or UVA beds which i have to use.... xoxo
You HAVE to use sunbeds? Umm, sorry, why?

...proving that you do, indeed, need sun cream in this country.

you can still get burnt by english sun. and it's still dangerous. you can get burnt through clouds too - in a way i think there is more of a risk here because the wind making the air temperature is cooler, as well as the mindset that "england isn't hot" means people don't bother with cream and proceed to get terribly burnt. on holiday it's more automatic to put it on because it's hotter. (well, depending where you go!)

You might not but some people do, obviously! In the summer I can burn in about 10 mins if I dont have cream on, I always need at least factor 30-35 and if i dont reapply it i still burn.
*is a fair and freckly person*

Often they are recommended for skin conditions. A girl in my class had severe acne and it wouldn't go away with anything the pill, antibiotics etc. So she was recommended to go aon a sunbed, and lo and behold her acne problem went. The sun is often the cure for bad skin.
