I've always known it as a day at school you dont have to wear school uniform / dress code....but i could be wrong?
Why not call it a non-uniform day, like we always did?

Well i went to kent (once), and never heard of it (not that i would of probably in a single day).
Thats rather a stupid, pointless point to make really.

Perhaps it's a Medway thing - haven't heard of 'non-uniform day' referred to as anything else around rest of Kent, exception being Dover according to a boarder on another thread.

When our headmistress first came into power (I have chosen these words carefully...to resemble Hitler entirely ) she started referring to non-uniform days as Mufti days...except it kinda sounds like something else, a colloquial term for the female genetalia...and the cretins in our year used to snigger...and they still do now at the age of 18.

i'm sure that we still call it non-uniform day, but now that i'm in college i don't need to wear a uniform.

It used to be a home clothes day at my school. At another local one, it was a "Freedom day." Fascinating stuff...
