Twin Blocks At Age 15/16?

Yesterday I made a thread asking how to eat while wearing twin blocks but I've been reading about them online today and am kind of worried because they only seem to be given to 11/12 year olds but I'll be 16 in just over a month. I'm assuming they'll still work but just to reassure me until I next see my orthodontist (end of october) I was wondering if anyone had any experience of them actually working at my age??

take them out. You don't eat with retainers in. :lolwut:

I used to have twin blocks... I got then when I was 14... and I never wore them for eaing. Anyway, they didn't work for me atall and I ended up having jaw surgery. I don't know if it was an individual thing for me, but would suggest that they will not work as well as if you wee 11, because they're partially influenced by growth- they are moving your jaws and they grow into the correct position.

I could be totally wrong, but this is the impression I got from all of my five year long treatments. Any questions about my experiences, please ask away

Lol, I've given up on eating with them...far too difficult :p:. Twin blocks are braces which are designed to bring your lower jaw forward (that probably isn't a very good explanation so just google it).

How long did you have them for before the orthodontist decided they weren't working?? Hmm my orthodontist did say that if I were a year older then I'd have jaw surgery instead of the braces...I'm just feeling a bit miffed tbh because they might not work :frown: - though I suppose I'll have to trust the orthodontist for now.

I think I had them when I was about 14 and they were horrible. I was meant to wear them all the time but really couldnt talk with them in (and you're not meant to eat with them) so I didnt wear them at school like I should've. But it still worked. I had braces after which I think also reduced the bite a little and I suppose I still have a tiny bit of a gap between the top and bottom in terms of overbite but thats normal.

Trust your othadontist! I know you are probably suspicious now but they probably know what they are doing. This is a good chance to imrove your bite without having to go to the drastic measure of surgery - one of my mates had that and said it was very painful and took a long time to heal. Lots of people have braces at 15/16 so its good to give it a try before you get to the age where it is more awkward.

I was expecting a pic of the Olsen twins?

It will take longer but it's up to you, as long as you so wear them all the rest of the time you'll get there eventually! This thread is really old so I'm going to close it now, you're welcome to make a new one though
