Which Uni to choose? Dundee or Aberdeen?

Hi all!
I didn't get the grades i hoped for so my offers fell through but i have been offered places for Biochemistry at both Dundee and Aberdeen!
For some reason Dundee are keen on getting a reply by Monday so i gotta decide quickly, but i havent been to either uni and all the research i have done on them has led me to believe that they are almost equal in teaching ability and surroundings!
So which should i choose?
Are there any major differences that i should be aware of or are they both good uni's to study at?
I'm just worried that i'll pick one and find out afterwards that the other uni is superior!
Cheers for any insight

I think Aberdeen is held in higher regard, and it is sometimes referred to as an ancient university. As a result is has fine achitecture.

look at the pictures of both and decide which one looks prettier!

Dundee has an MJ impersonator at freshers week

This will help you make your decision

Aberdeeen

Both are well regarded and you won't go wrong with either of them to be honest.

Have you looked at the course content and assessment methods for each one to see how they compare?

Perosnally I think you need to visit them and decide.
I know that might seem unrealistic as you are in Devon but there are planes from Exeter.

Both Aberdeen and Dundee university are ancient universities (Dundee is so simply because of it's association with St.Andrews)

I think it's difficult to give advice for biochemistry...Dundee is big on the whole life science thing but the differences between a lot of the courses there is marginal and there is little to no choice in modules taken, which is why I turned them down for Drug Design.

I'm not sure what the curriculum for biochemistry is but you'll probably find that you don't have all that much more choice in the first two years because it's not a 'pure' subject. Aberdeen is also more expensive for accommodation, assuming there is any left.

It'd be a much easier choice if you just ditched the biology part of biochem and went to Aberdeen

Aberdeen is a larger, and more exciting city. It's also prettier, and in the centre of the country so you can get to both Edinburgh/Glasgow and the highlands in about the same amount of time.

I think you might want to have a look at a map :p:

Dundee.

Also, since when has the North East been the centre of the country?

I'd say Aberdeen, from a blatantly biased point of view. Aberdeen is a good one for research and the like, which is a natural progression of biochemistry.

To tell you the truth, you can't go wrong with getting the degree from either.

Alas, you forget. Scotland ends just above Glasgow and Edinburgh - above that, Vikings. Just like London is somewhere near Newcastle and Belfast is a suburb of Dublin.

Considering how far north the north west extends, I'd say Aberdeen is reasonably central. I don't mean in the middle of the country, but around halfway up the country, on the eastern side.

Dundee is a horrible, grim, dark place and the Uni is lower quality than Aberdeen, and the courses aren't as good either. Choose Aberdeen for quality, academic success and a high living standard.

Aberdeen is probably a slightly better regarded uni, and Dundee often suffers unjustly for it's negative stereotype. It is currently very highly regarded e.g. by the sunday times university guide. It also has an outstanding reputation for life sciences. Aberdeen may be slightly bigger, with nicer architecture, but it is rather isolated, being the only place of a reasonable size within quite a large area. Dundee is much more central; closer to Edinburgh and Glasgow, easier access to most of the Scotland and rest of the UK.

Aberdeen is considerably more expensive to live in aswell.

I'm sure you'll love whichever one you go to though:smile:

Lots of mention of Dundee...

None of Aberdeen.

Dundee is a nice city and apparently it's well regarded for sciences, more so than Aberdeen.

I'm sorry, but what is the need to make such extreme statements?
"Horrible, grim, dark place"? Just like anywhere there are nice parts and not so nice parts. Academic success - what? are you suggesting that people will never do well academically in Dundee? In this case specifically, Dundee has a better reputation for life sciences than Aberdeen.
What exactly do you mean by living standard? Aberdeen is more expensive as a city to live in, so won't students therefore be more financially constricted and hence have a lower standard of living?

It's really not central.

If you like granite, Aberdeen is great.

I agree.
It's not like Dundee is in a cave! Isn't Dundee Scotland's sunniest city? Living in Dundee myself, i can safely say that Dundee is a lot sunnier than where my parents live (near Edinburgh). I'm not going to sit and slag off Aberdeen now, but when i went there (my sisters at RGU) it seemed a lot more depressing than Dundee (although maybe i'd have thought more highly of it if it had have been nicer weather that day).
