Obtaining the phone number of a prospective friend

Evening.

Say you become sort of friends with people maybe at college or at work - how do you go about getting their mobile number?

Personally, I have always got the mobile number before meeting up in free time, and i've done this by asking another person what so and so's number is....

How do you just get it off someone directly?

It's a bit of an odd question, 'Hey buddy, whats your number?", don't you think?

Thanks.

You might like to try saying, 'hey Bob. Can I have your phone number?'
i always get numbers because ive needed them for some reason, like ive said id do something then "ill ring you, whats your number", i don't see the point in asking for someones number if your not going to need it. If you do need it then its easy enough to get it in casual conversation.
Agree with the rockindemon.

Hey, I was wondering if I could get your number

exactly what i said when i asked a guy who i thought was pretty hot for his number.

i never called him though. i couldn't be bothered. :p:

Make a plan - like, for example, mention a film and arrange to see it. Then say, "by the way, what's your number" so that you can organise it.
i say soething like... "hey xxx i don't think i have your number can i have it?"

Find some excuse to need their number, like say 'oh, I'll see you in the pub tonight, what's your number?'

It isn't a huge social problem
Well you want this friend's number? So ask for it. Why should it be weird? Don't go to all the trouble of setting up a film or something - I mean, you need a number to communicate with this person, it makes your life easier. So just ask for it.

"I don't have your number, what is it?"

or you could say..
'Can i have your number so i can overload your phone with voice messages, call you every morning before you're up and again at night when you're asleep and bombard you with text messeges and jokes in txt spk which i get sent by my over-enthusiastic friends or come up with myself when i have nothing better to do.'
Or you could just say
'Can i have your number?'
sooo...... just ask for it, its what every bodys answer is going to be. its ok asking other people what 'so' and 'so's' number is, but when you phone or txt them wont they be a little freaked out how you got their number, and how willingly people hand out other peoples numbers?
