In your skincare routine? Or in an exercise way?

I'm no expert on these matters but I consider it to be getting some shape and definition to your muscle. It only really applies to people who are quite slim already, otherwise any definition wouldn't show through the fat.

defenition = losing fat
shape = genetics

toning is what i do in my **** tshirt at the gym with 12 sets of 25 db curls, it works for me so dont hate on it

Defining/ shaping your body: i.e. not fat loss but muscle gain?
Reply 7
BEcuase the amount of times I see "do 200 situps to get toned".. I don't know what this means. That won't build muscle, burn a small amount of calories, and not have any effect on the actual muscle shape...
toning is taken to mean by the masses... losing bodyfat whilst tightening a muscle, but not gaining much size.

Its bullsh*t you understand, because it doesnt actually exist, you build muscle or you dont, you cant change it.

Take Brad Pitt from fight club, people say he's toned, thats what people mean when they say toned, 'i want to look like Brad Pitt.' Toning is just a word fitness companies and personal trainers use to get money out of fat people and old women.

So cleansing is like... washing and toning is like washing and... ARGH!! WHATS THE DIFFERENCE!!

Cleansing opens up the pore and gets the dirt out, toning closes the pores up again so they don't stay so open for dirt to get in.

Or so I've been told. I doubt how truthful this is, but I know my cleanser feels nice and soft and my toner feels more astringent.

1) cleansing - with facial cleanser - to clean off the dirt and oil daily

2) exfloliate - with exfloliating scrub (once / twice a week) - to get rid of dead skin and dirt embedded deep in the pores

3) mask - with facial masks (once / twice a week) - there are some for deep pore cleansing purposes or moisturising purposes

4) toning - with toners (& cotton pads) - to close up the pores after all the above so they look less apparent and to minimise the dirt re-entering

5) moistursing - with moisturiser - to rehydrate your skin after all the above to reprevent excess oil secretion

So... does soap and water not work anymore?? :rolleyes:

Thanks for clearing that up for me :biggrin:

toning means different things to different people

in my case, i think of it as giving some definition to your body (like firming muscles - but definitely not to an extent where you become bulky :eek: )
Reply 18
How do you "firm" a muscle?

oh, guess i didn't state that properly - when you use it often, it becomes stronger - which generally shows, as compared to someone who doesn't exercise regularly
