Best taxi companies?

Ok, so this isn't strictly on topic, but as there are probably people wondering this for their nights out etc I figured it wouldn't hurt.

Basically my dilemma is, I need to find a cheap enough taxi to pre-book for Saturday night. I wouldn't bother and just chance it outside of the gate, apart from the fact the journey home is to a village 20 miles north of Newcastle and could well run up to £40...I'll be splitting it with 2 other people.

Who would anyone recommend for pre-booking a journey that long? Cheap as possible please...I heard someone say they booked from Newcastle to Morpeth which isn't far from me, for £25.
ABC are the cheapest 01912323636

not sure if they pre book, but they are 1/2 the price of a black cab

Blueline is pretty decent too.

I forget their number though.

I remember some Blueline driver telling me he had to take a passport to Heathrow from Newcastle once for a customer.

Admittedly, they'd have made a killing for it, but still.
BLUELINE! That's the uni's choice I think. However, there is a facebook group against them because they send you a text that costs something like 20p, that gives you a description of the car, and even its license plate number. Now, a lot of people begrudge that 20p, but for peace of mind, and safety, I don't really care! You would know you were getting into the right car, and then would have a record of which car you were in if anything did go crazily wrong!
i wouldnt be even bothered by the 20p personally. it costs me somewhere around 3.50 to get home from town whereas a hackney costs about 8-9. so 20p on the fare bothers me not. sometimes i feel a bit embarassed at the meter when we pull up!

That's a really good idea, how can anyone begrudge that? Saves you sticking your head in a few taxi windows haha

Thanks everyone, i'll bear this in mind but my nan has very kindly offered to pick me up this once and charge £4 each (there's 3 of us going home) to cover the petrol

At home in Leeds it costs us £25 to get back to where I live which is about 10 miles, or about £30 for a 5 seater taxi, so if you can get it for £25 I'd say that's pretty good.

Haha I didn't know that! Does the money still come off if you're on contract?

Yer I've had that feeling I've had a few taxi fares at £1.50 before and because I was that embarssed I made it to £2.00
after using taxis extensively over the last couple of months my advice would be to get a blueline cab from home to a night out etc, and if you're looking for a taxi to come home again in the early hours take an alternate company such as LA taxis. blueline are reliable outside of newcastle city centre and during daylight hours and by far the cheapest, but for pickups around 2-3am they're not as reliable and you're better off paying a bit extra for LA.
I use LA Taxis aswell they're really cheap. http://mediamoose.com/LA/

Costs me £2.50 from the supermarket to my flat, or £2.80 from the Gate to Quay Point. Well cheap, it's like £3 from the train station to Quay Point aswell.

Not sure how that compares to others but it's great for me, at home it costs me £10 for a 5 - 10 minute 2-3 mile journey, or £25 for the 20 min 10 mile journey.

Yeh that's good, all the cabs in Newcastle are cheap (except the black cabs obviously). I find Blueline to be slightly cheaper than LA though, i can get a taxi from Victoria halls to the train station for about £2.50, and to Morrisons in Byker for about the same, and Viccy halls is a bit further away than Quay point.

I think Blueline are best, with LA second. Only problem with Blueline is that they haven't turned up on time for me a couple of times, and i've been standing around outside like a pillock for 15 minutes.
Uber all the way. Best by far. I wouldn't use anybody else. Download the app people !
when this thread was made Uber hadn't been invented :emo:
Hey!

We like Blueline at The Shield. We even have a little button you can press for a taxi to turn up in minute in our front office of The Shield. Super easy
