Kinda random question, but.. From what i've seen of it it looks very impressive.

Another question.. are tuition fees in northern island the same as the UK? What about accommodation fees?

Chears

it is a very good university, yes, have you got any particular subject in mind?

The impression that home students have of Queens isn't helped by its location (in Northern Ireland) meaning it often gets ignored. Similarly, because Belfast is quite a working class and (arguably) an unfashionable city then this also has an effect. You get the same with Liverpool and Glasgow as well, to an extent. So you may get people saying that it's one of the more mediocore Russell Group unis or even that it's not deserving of being in the Russell Group. But this is nonsense as there's no reason why it shouldn't be seen as part of the Russell Group or as good as the English redbricks.

Northern Ireland is part of the UK. If you mean the rest of the UK then they are the same as England (as far as I'm aware) but not Scotland or Wales. Scottish students don't pay tuition fees and students from the rest of the UK, studying at Scottish unis, pay only half. Welsh students, studying at Welsh universities, pay half.

In other words, for this coming year, then the UK as a whole: -

England: £3,225 p.a.
N. Ireland: £3,225 p.a.
Scotland: free to Scots, £1,775 to other UK
Wales: £1,285 to the Welsh, £3,225 (full price) to other UK

EU students pay the same as home (UK) students as far as I know.

I don't know about accomodation fees but these can vary across universities (and within individual unis). Moving to the Northern Ireland forum.

It's like every research intensive group outside of Oxbridge in the Russell Group- it'll have its strong departments and its weaker ones. I like it as a city and a university, it's certainly not inferior to places like Southampton or Birmingham or wherever because one's 15th and ones 35th in a newspaper. It has a high proportion of Northern Irish students though- nearly 95% come from Ireland. I found it quite an expensive city (regeneration has probably artificially pushed prices higher than they are in similar cities- Dublin perhaps excepted), but a good one nonetheless.
It is a pretty good university, while overall its performance may not be high in league tables, it does come high in specific subjects. Although I got the grades which would allow me to have a chance at "better" universities personally I would prefer Queens.

There's plently of things to do in Belfast, there is some stunning scenery up nearby cavehill, and you can really soak up the culture there. There are loads of pubs/clubs and shops too, so you'll never be stuck for something to do. The Queen's University student's union is great too. However, you might be stuck for company during the weekend, as this is when a lot of students go home.

Oh, thanks Sky_Dream, their website says nothing about that, thanks a lot

The one thing I love the most about Belfast is that you get all the city centre conviences but minutes away from the countryside. For example, 10 mins walk from the main University site brings you to the Lagan Valley Park which stretches for over 17km along the river. Its good for walks and cycling, you can also hire kayaks and there is a slalom to ride down, there is even a livery stables if you are thinking of bringing a horse over.
Good enough for Patrick Kielty and that moustaced man from wild cat week!

The unfortunate thing for students coming from England (like yourself, i assume) is that during the weekends most students in Queen's go home, as the majority tend to live locally or in surrounding rural areas.

However, Queen's is a great university! Student acommodation in the Elm's Village (run by the university) has great facilities and a range of options for people with different lifestyle choices. The village is closely located to the main campus of the university as well as its surrounding departments and schools.
Nightlife is also pretty good in the Student Union and there are plenty of other bars and clubs in the student area.

The people in the Uni, that I have met, are very friendly, helpful and welcoming too.

Queen's also has some great facilities, whether its academic, research, sporting or just general leisure.

Although I don't know much about Nottingham, I would recommend Queen's to anyone!

From what I hear, architecture at Queen's is supposed to be very good, and I know a few people in first year on the course who are enjoying it.

I don't know too much specifically about the other courses you want to do. Come to Open Days, check out info online and maybe contact the Uni for more details though

Whatever you do, Queen's is an all round great place to be!

I know you posted 2 years ago... but YAY!!! Another female CS student from QUB!

I'd recommend QUB to anyone to be honest, I started in September and I've enjoyed it so much already. I love the atmosphere in Queen's and the majority of people I've met would recommend Queen's too.
I also have to say... move out if you can. I guarantee that you'll meet 10 times more friends moving out than if you dont. Best decision I ever made.
