I appreciate your logic however this sentence lets the argument down, pay is dictated by your position or your accountability.

Lets look at this another way, uve mentioned that this scheme is good because it makes you a regional manager in 18 months, you've also refuted my claim that Aldi regional manager pay is poor in comparison to its competitor. Yes you achieve that rank and pay in 18months but if you do the Tesco graduate scheme for example you could be a store manager earning more than that in 18 months. If you applying for the Aldi graduate scheme you are driven by the starting salary and a company car when actually if you look at the rest of the market, the other companies have graduate schemes equally as lucrative 'long term'.

I would not apply for this graduate scheme simply because of an old proverb, "if it looks too good to be true it probably is". The starting salary looks great but the catch is long hours and poor job security, I also question the long term earning potential for this job.

I have worked in food retailing for four years whilst studying, I have also had the opportunity to work in a food retailers head office and work with regional teams, I have a confirmed graduate place with one of Aldi's competitors and reading this I have no doubts that I made the correct decision.

Your pay is not dictated by your position and accountability, you do not get paid 100K because of your inherent position but because of your bargaining power with an employer, which comes from your skills; this make you valuable. Whilst these factors may play into specific situations, position and accountability do not dictate wage level nor influence the wage market to any significant extent.

Interestingly enough your paragraph actually contradicts what you've been saying. If wage was in fact determined my position and accountability then wouldn't regional managers at Aldi earn more, since they have a higher position and are more accountable. My analysis, in my first post, actually describes why they are paid less.

I'd like you to also find me a job that pays great but requires you to only work 9-5, I imagine one doesn't exist for a graduate.

I applied for this, got invited to the group interview but didn't make it any further. The workload is huge but it'll pay off after a few years when you get promoted even higher. They get a stupid amount of applications though, something like 150 per day in the South East alone.

You MAY make regional manager in 18 months. You MAY be fired.

When will you have time to drive the car other than between stores? - this isn't a 5 day a week 9-5 job...

Do know weather ALDI has changed since this thread, are they still slave owners ?
they are re branding and looking to attract the more affluent shopper, surely they pay REALLY WELL in the short term and now care about the mental state of their area managers... ?

any new insight ?

Why would I know?

They aren't rebranding...
Why would they now care?

I doubt they'll now be taking people who don't know the difference between weather and whether though...
